Ive replaced just about everything but the engine (206k+)
however i dont know anything about engine compatability
-i did look over the threads but no clear answers. talk of engines quickly moves to tail lights and air pressure :wtf:
PS i have a good distributor pulled from a 90 acc 4 sale

160hp sounds about as exciting as 16 bit super nintendo graphics

It's more exciting than the 80hp you have now!

Hahaha, if you don't like 160 Hp, just buy a muscle car and swap a big block. Stop whining on your 5th post. Obviously, if you have an 88 accord, you don't have money for real power

i think he had 650hp in his mind to squeeze out of this 2.0L SOHC. hmmmm... good dreams. I think this is why most of laugh at newbies.

black_5star, what did u have in mind? Dont tell me u were planning on a swap with a B16 or a B18 vtecs.

well if you have $5,000+ to spend then your ok but if you dont then your better off looking somewhere else for that 300 hp.

easiest, fastest and cheapest way to have 300 hp.... V8 engine...

If you don't want a V8, then just turbo the existing engine that you have and don't swap anything. .... be prepared for serious expenses tough.

Trust me on the Turbo issue stuff adds up real fast. It is still going to cost me a bit and i bought a fully built bottom end which would have cost me around $3000 or so. This is the only way i can see you getting 300 whp but its all about the money.

No offence but have you driven a front wheel drive car with 160bhp ???

Its ok to see all these performance and power figures on the tv/film/internet/dreams but how many are real and how many are well........Dreams.

Maybe thats why honda are the power of dreams hehe.

im not talking about money- POSSIBILITIES
my bro is pushing 400hp with no internal mod to his 6cyl eclipse
I havent had this accord too long. The engine has 206k and the drv side crankcase seal is bad so either rebuilding or replacing would be the next logical thing to do since everything else has been replaced fresh and new

so rebuild with 10:1 pistons and run a 10 PSI turbo setup with a FMIC and some killer fuel delivery

I havent decided what would be EASIER rebuilding or replacement. i look at the rebuilding as valuable hands on.
dont you have to replace camshaft, rings, pistons and rods if you add any type of turbo anyways.

yah

the cheapest way to like 180 HP would be through rebuild with good components...

DC header, aftermarket B16 intake manifold and TB, 11:1 pistons, machine the crank, wild cam grind, high flow injectors and pump, full exhaust, and spray a 55 shot of ZEX for another 50 HP... so like 230 HP for like 3000 or less

but for easier... B18C1 swap would be the easiest way to 300 HP

i havent even looked so what is the stock engine in an 88- the a20a? how much HP does the factory engine produce? someone said something about 80 hp earlier in the thread
Travis have you done any internal eng mod?

dont forget a forged or treated/coated Crankshaft. U might as well go with a lighter flywheel to reduce rotational mass and get a better cluctch (organics seem to work fine with it).

Well, i just have a question. my friend has an 88 accord and he has some mods but when he asked about an engine swap the person he asked said they didn't make engines to fit his car. I personally think the guy didn't know what he was talking about so. do they make engines for our cars?

Ok, making sense in what he was told. This is the best way I can explain it.

You can install the honda B series engines into the 3rd gen accord using a engine mount kid from place racing, would also need axles and some other parts, but it can be done. Or you can install the JDM B20a (no number after the "a") 160hp 16valve, which would be the easiest swap and cheapest to. But it might not pass california emissions tests. (One member in LA did the B20 swap and sometime or other he'll be finding out if his passes or not).

What you cannot do is what 4th and 5th gen owners can do drop in a H22a out of a prelude, which is extreamly easy and painless for them.

Also the good thing about the B20A is that some engine parts from the B20A5 are interchangeable.

hehehehe, talk about owning a 4th gen or even a 5th gen. hm........ anyway. why wont the B20A pass california emissions Jim? Would it pass NJ emissions though?

Well I did not say it won't, I said it might not pass. Biggest problem I see is that their was never a federalized version of the motor imported to this country. All the other swapable motors have usdm versions. Hey it might be a non issue, but it's a big what if. What do you do after all the work and money if it doesn't pass?

03-03-2003, 01:31 PM
true. thats really true. I mean, they dont care what kinda engine u have right? cause they never look under the hood. All they look for is the exhaust leackage or emissions. I mean, it would pass if there is a good cat under there. I dont know, i am just guesing though.

general question: What could be te factors that would make a car not pass inspection once the Swap is complete?
