My under-dash hood opener is barely doing it's job releasing the hood. What's the best way to make it better?

*Lube latch
*Adjust cable
*Replace cable (if adjusting not possible)

Thanks!

Crash it into a cement wall. Worked for me.

Hmmm... wait for summer or drive car into cement wall... I'm open for more suggestions at this point.

I smeared the pivots and sping in the latch assembly with grease and mine has worked much better since.

Mine does that too....I just give the hood a light tap or two with the palm of my hand while holding the hood release pulled out. Works every time :)

Your "best" fix is to grease it up including all the rest of the car's hinges and latches with multipurpose grease. This is one of the maintenace jobs on the list.

How do you get new grease down in there? Do I pack it in? Should I get rid of the old dirty grease with brake cleaner?

The Helm manual calls for "Multipurpose Grease" for the hood latch. I think I've seen "lithium" grease in a spray bottle, is this the right stuff?

I used some 10-40 weight oil and I greased the hood latch itself and the cable that connects to the latch. It used to stick really bad, now it works great even with the cold weather.

Yeah, it's the same stuff.
I got a tube of it at crappy tire here in Canada.
Try to clean it out the best you can w/ a rag then just spray some of the new stuff in there and work it in. (move the hinge back and forth)
