When i wiring the main power feed to the amps, does it matter how far from the battery the fuse is??? If so, what is the safe amount???

It should be less than 12 inches...

Follow this religiously!!! If you short your power cable to your battery with no fuse, you can say "bye-bye car" and possibly "bye-bye life" as your car turns into a giant fireball.

most likely your car won't get into fire ball, because the fuse will blow before it gets too hot.
i foullow this rule, the closer the fuse to the battery the faster it will blow before damaging any equipment.
as long as you have your cable around 10"-12" in the engine bay you should be fine.
make sure you use right wirring.

the closer you can get it the better, i think youd be risking electrical damage and fires if you go farther than that, if somthing melts thru the insulation to youre wire itll get ugly

Alex,

I said with NO FUSES a shorted cable will result in a fire almost every time. That's what fuses prevent ;)
