lost power after 3k rpms

A friend of mines car is starting to do this, I thought I would ask before I start replacing things, not to keen on the carb cars, The car will start off fine, any gear after you get the rpms up it wants to die, if you pump the gas it will start jerking, Im thinking either pump or carb, I have both but just thought I would ask if anyone has see this problem, should I try fuel filters...

try cleaning the carb with a carb cleaner ! specially the second barell ! which opens after 3 K !
does it do that when even when idling and reving to 3k ?

i would say it is fuel pump.

can the primery venturi cause my problem ( no power under 3K ) if it's loose !
