I found DOHC 2.0 B20A8 engine from Honda Accord 88 (sedan, without flip-up headlights). With 5MT it's cost $650. What you think about this?

I try to found info about specs for this engine and in google found, what it's have DOHC 16 valve 2.0 98kW/133hp

Does it really to convert this engine to JDM B20A with 160hp by replacing some parts? What you think about it? I need your opinions.

In another source, i found info, what B20A8 have 101 Kw/ 137hp... :banghead:

i think B20A(plus number) always had around 130-140HP.

The euro version of the 3rd gen B20a is the B20a2 or B20a7 and has 137bhp.
I converted my B20a2 to JDM spec by using the camshafts from a JDM B20a.
I could only measure the parts (with a caliper and ruler) but the only parts that appeared to be differant were the camshafts.
The B20a has more power now (running on a standard carb) with the JDM B20a cams than it had with the B20a2 cams and EFI.

It is hard to get any info from honda on the early B20a's

yes, the camshaft is different. I think that the compression ratio is also different. The camshaft alone cannot be responsible for 25 hp.

I measured the crank and the bore and they both have the same connecting rods so??
Maybe the B20a (from a 2nd gen prelude) had been rebuilt

Not 100% sure but I do believe that the heads on the JDM B20A are different in that they have a better flow design and larger valves not to mention a different cam. Plus I know there was a difference in the comp. ratio.

The B series has so many incarnations its really amazing.

Paul, are you saying that the only difference between the JDM B20A and the B20A2(7, 8) are the camshafts? What about the pistons, valves, and the crank shaft? I am planning to buy this engine and eventually replace some parts with JDM spec counterparts in order to increase output to 160 hp.

The pistons are different if the compression ratio is different.

I know that the valves from the B20a and the b20a2 are the same size.
Not sure about the compression ratiio.
There is very little info on the B20a2/B20a7 from honda.

yes, the valves are the same as the B20A5 from the 88-91 prelude too. The crank and rods are the same in europe and Japan.

Quick question for anybody who knows, is there a diference in power between the black top b20a and the gold top b20a? and which one is newer black top or gold?

this is just a strange question.....not really looking for answers...but just thinking....is it strange for me to want an aerodeck? I like them for some reason

Vega: Gold top is '86/'87, 110 HP. Black top is '88/'89, with dual-stage intake runners and 4-2-1 exhaust manifold. It makes 120 HP because of the better breathing at high RPMs. However, Sean says the older intake manifold flows more freely, so... Uh, I dunno.

Swan: No.

WRONG
a B20a making 110 -120 hp :lol :lol :lol

He is wright that the inlet is single stage on the Gold top and duel stage on the black top.
But
the B20a is rated at 160 bhp.

and to swan AERODECKS rule:super:

So theres no hp diference in them? And so the gold top is 86/87 and the black top 88/89?

would the exhaust manifold from an 88/89 fit my 86-87 without any modifications?
