I'm trying to find out if any one here on the board has had there engine bored? I'm thinking of doing an all motor A20 and I know a place in town that will port and polish the head and maybe bore the throttle body and make a light weight cam gear. They also bore engine there and I just want to see if any one had done that yet.

You can't get more than .1 liters from our block.

See, that is weird. I know it's a different motor but this guy in town has a 2.6lt H22. He owns Place Racing. It was in Sport Compact a while ago. The H22 is in a 90 Accord. He runs 13's in that car. www.collectiveracing.net

He probably had it resleeved or something. There is a maximum you can bore out the stock walls and it's not that much.

Do you guys think that .1 ltrs would help much? I'm not worried about the cost. I just want to know if it's worth doing to get the mak HP out of the A20.

No, flat out not worth the expence, not based on possible increase in power, here's why. For the sake of argument let's say you raised the level of horse power before the overbore to 170hp at the crank. That would equal's 85hp per liter or 8.5hp per 100cc's. 75cc's to 100cc's would net you 6.4hp to 8.5hp

Point taken. I'm going to have the guy who owns the 2.6ltr see what he can do. I have a shop looking into my request for rods, pistons, cam gear, throttle body, and port and polishing the head.

see josh you dont need to go to engine building school! you can start building race car engines now! :P lol.

yeah i wouldnt waste my money trying to bore it out until you have almost every other mod possible done... seems like a last resort mod! :)

ALL-DATA says that the block can be bored .3 over.

I think a 2.2 would be pretty good.

In a 90 prelude isn't the b21a1 better than the b20a5? My pops has a lude with the b21 and it flies. only .1 litres bigger but I bet there is a difference. He did say he didnt care about price. I'd say if you really want to mod the a20a1 you should go for it. You will run out of mods after a while. And while you have the head off getiing ported and polised might as well do all of the other mods before you put it back on. Right???

Using the A20's power numbers, 120 HP / 1955 cc = 0.0614 HP /cc. Standard .040" overbore, which is about all it can take without re-sleeving, is about 45 more cc's, or 2000 cc total. This will get you another 2.7 HP. Whoopee. Of course, HP / cc is a crude approximation, but it doesn't sound like boring is worth it unless you re-sleeve.

If you re-sleeve and go .3 over, that would give you roughly a 2.3L (2300cc) and roughly 141 HP. THAT might be worth it...
