my 86 accord dx never seems to idle correctly. when i do a cold start it will idle at around 2500 and after a minute if i rev a little it goes down to around 500 and when the engine gets to operating temp it idles at 3000 and when i pull on the gas pedal it goes back down to 500 and if i stop pulling on it it goes back up and i dont really know my way around carbs so i dont really know what to do

Well I'm sure your going thru help section here in the carb tech.

Carb are pretty much all mechanical linkages. I would pull the air cleaner assemble off and look over everything very well maybe hit the linkages with some WD40. it sounds like once warmed up the fast idle is coming back on for some reason hence the 3000 rpm warm idle.

Start the car like you normally do and observe everything with the air cleaner housing off and see if you figure out what is happening.

Loosen the throttle cable, I have found they are pretty sensitive to being overtightened. You should be able to wiggle the cable at the carb and the idle won't walk. It sounds like it could be a little gummed up too, make sure everything can operate smoothly, but I have only ever been able to drop the idle by pulling the pedal when I am a hair too tight

I have taken my carb off more times than I would like to admit...
