Hi all,

My son has a 1987 LXI automatic that just turned 100k miles. We have done a lot to maintain it and it has ran great for the lst 3 years he has had it. The Igniter on the distributor failed and we bought a new one. Installed it and it fired right up then broke down 3 miles down the road. I think the pick-up in the distributor is causing it to fail. We bought a new disrtibutor on Amazon but it did not have the pick up or ignitor with it.

Does anyone know where a good place to source a complete plug and play distributor from? I've googled and searched everywhere and he needs to get his car going for college in less than a week.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I suggest you join 3geez on Facebook. Lot of knowledge and possible parts there. More Honda's used the same distributor. Good luck.

Thanks. So you don't have a "go to" supplier for parts. Everyone just uses ebay to order stuff?

Sadly, as is with discontinued parts, we do. Junkjard is the next best thing.
RockAuto has some parts still. Could try them.

I've seen a lot of people complain about the reman distributors. Things like it basically not being rebuilt at all or the igniters already being bad. I would suggest rebuilding it yourself, it's actually pretty easy, only consists of cap and rotor, unsticking the advance mechanisms, and replacing the end seal. The pick up can be replaced too, I am pretty sure it is available from a Rockauto or the likes.
Here is the guide (https://www.3geez.com/forum/3geez-accords/66468-lazy-mans-distributor-overhaul-tec-distributor.html) If you don't want to read passed the 1st page the seal is Dorman part #917-136. I would much rather do this and have a distributor that is known good, remans are too expensive to just pick up for parts imo.

I havent heard of any good rebuilders lately.

Just a few tech questions? Are you sure the car has no spark when it dies? have you looked at the Main relay and/or the ignition switch? Are you using and after market coil? have you tested the coil to see if its good?

You may want to also run thru the troubleshooting testing procedures in the book and see if its just one part in the distributor that is bad. There some parts that are available new.
