Kinda of a sad little story maybe a lol maybe a little tears. :sad2:

I got my Plymouth Scamp back from a shop that I sadly paid $$$ to finish it up for me. The new carb they put on is a squarebore and its a spreadbore manifold...with the wrong adapter. So driving it I notice the gas pedal barely moves and the cars slow as shit.Its a 318 V8 motor I have had and ran for years. Shop commented it need the trans rebuilt. Quick spot check and the throttle blades only open about 30% before they hit the manifold sides. So no 100% throttle and no four barrel engagement. This is like carb 101: 1. check and make sure the linkage doesnt bind and 2. goes 100% with the pedal.

A quick gasket change and we are off to the races. got my 4 barrel back!

pretty sad deal over all I mean this is a hotrod shop that works on older makes.

This is why I do 100% of my own work on cars now. Tired of paying shops to do work to find they didn't do it all, did it incorrectly, or they broke something else completely unrelated to what they were working on. Can't say I know it all but it feels so good knowing that with a little time I can figure out any issue.

That's a pretty disgraceful story, and sadly, very common. It looks like a cherry carb and should serve you well.

Edlebrocks not my favorite carb but it seems to run pretty well untuned. There is no way they could have tuned it with the throttle blades only going 30%. The choke was on about half way with the car warmed up so it was never set either.

Over all positive is they did all the heavy lifting for me and got a stalled project moving under its own power. I got a some thumbs up driving around working on the set up.

Did you bring your own parts? Sometimes a shop will not double check if everything fits together if the customer supplies the parts.

The engine was running and it had a great carb,a Thermoquad, on it that they made fun of an insisted on buying that one new. I even told them I don't really like Edlebrocks.

I guess that's the punchline,or makes me the punchline. Still not sure on that.

I'm still thinking on litigation actually.

I highly, highly recommend tuning the carb according to the instructions in the Edelbrock manual. It made a huge difference in my truck.

Yes Im afraid I will have to do that. Right out of the box it runs and idles very nice. back barrels appear to be engaging correctly. just missing the fast idle cold is all.

A Rochester Quadrajet is an option as we well, Mopar started using those right around the comp contro carb era 87 ish, the Thermoquad phased out. I never researched why but a guess would be too much heat under the hood, these were on a lot of Diplomat & Fury police cruisers.
