View Full Version : Tallest Tyre You Can Run?

I've just grabbed myself a 1987 Accord with a Mugen Bodykit installed. The tyres on it are 195/60 R14's and are due a replacement.
I live in a rural area with pretty bad roads so, protecting the bodykit in mind, I was wondering if I'd be able to add some height to the car with some new tyres.

What are the tallest tyres you could comfortably fit on these cars?

195/60r14 is already extremely tall at stock ride height... How tall are you wanting to go?

There is a section of the wheels and tires thread that gives you a pretty straight answer, but keep in mind wheel offset is going to affect rubbing
https://www.3geez.com/forum/suspension-wheels-tires-brakes/48188-wheels-tires.html

OEM Wheels
Stock 14”x5.5” 45 mm offset 4 x 100 mm bolt pattern
88-89 OEM 14" alloy wheels weigh 17.1 lbs (thanks CAH)
Stock 13”x5.5” 4 x 100 mm bolt pattern
Civic and Integra wheels fit
13" wheels do not fit on 88-89 fuel injected cars because of the larger front brakes

...

Maximum size
215 width fits with 45 mm offset wheels
225 width fits with 40 mm offset wheels
195/70R14fits at stock height (outer diameter 24.75” 106.6% stock)

195/60/14 is the stock call out on the Lxi models. Not really sure how high you can go or whats available in 14" in your country.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I think I'll try measuring out whether or not 195/70 R14 is going to scrub or not. If it fits it should hopefully help my bodykit stop scraping on every gravel road.

Wwe.tirerack.com. is a good one to just put in your size and play around with the numbers.

Tire rack wont really tell you what size fits
https://tiresize.com/comparison/ and https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/ keep the offset the same, it will show you how much bigger the tire is depth wise. Not every size exists so you might have to check tire rack for that. Like if there isnt a 195/80 there might be a 205/70

195/70/14 is listed as 24.7" tall 5.6" wide, widths vary by tire maker

195/60/14 is listed as 23.2" tall 6.5" wide, widths vary by tire maker

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Falken&tireModel=Azenis+RT615K%2B

I have run 205/50/15 and there listed same height just wider and I know they work, but that is a 15 inch rim.

I know alot of guys run the 17 inch rims and the shortest tire I can find is 24.3"

I just got some Cooper cobras tires and they list (3) 14" sizes. but there all 25 inches or taller.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Cooper&tireModel=Cobra+Radial+G%2FT&sidewall=Raised%20White%20Letters&partnum=17TR4CRGTRWL&tab=Sizes

So that will give you some numbers to mess around with. Finding what you want might be hard in the 14" rim size since those tires are just not popular anymore.

The 195/70s are already a massive increase, a lot more than I would want to go. If you need more height add some strut tower spacers lol.

Off topic, but since you are in Australia, you should seriously look into investing in a good radiator. I am running a Skunk2 349-05-1000, some modification involved, but fits for the most part.
