View Full Version : Can we clean up the how to's and FAQ?

So, there are times where I have gone into those sections looking for a specific thread and it is impossible to find the first time. I think that most of it should just be moved into an archive section in the Knowledge Base, and everything that is not outdated, completely unhelpful without pictures, or plain bad advice (painting tail lights, adding a restrictor to increase oil pressure, etc). There is a few good threads in there that would be helpful to reference . I also think that there are a few threads that would belong in there as well, there are a few how-to's in the other sections that are not stickied and will eventually be buried under a lot of other threads.

I've been. Asking and said the same thing for years since the site was swapped over, but I got ran off to FB because I said it back then. Nothing has happened since and most of the people that control things here aren't as attractive anymore, so I doubt it will ever happen.

The site's search function is quite terrible, which makes finding things a real challenge. We went through a few years ago and cleaned up the How-Tos, deleted a bunch of old threads and other stuff. It's anything but cut and dry and sucks up a lot of time. Mostly, you end up making judgement calls. I've gone looking for info on painting taillights, so in my mind, that one can stay. Obviously, not everyone agrees. We're always open to suggestions, of course, so if you notice something that needs to get fixed, send it over. It's your board too, so speak up!

Ok Ill stick my neck out with a suggestion.

Lets get a panel of people and rate every thread like the stars,if thats possible, and well get the boss to move stuff around.

Im 50/50 with moves as in it gets deleted and there is no recovery.

Ill keep my opinions to myself about the threads themselves for the time being.

I would like the archive to be called "the lost archive" after are famous poster of yore.

Rating the posts sounds like a good idea.

I tried last night and I cant get the "stars" rating to work there. I think because the whole section is closed off.

Ill keep working on it.

I'm rather fond of the "Grandma got strike 3, and I inherited her car....can I turbo it??!!!???" threads. All 400 of them.

It may be the weed talking/typing, my focus has been much less performance based, and more how to find, source, refurbish, interchange, (you get what I'm saying) parts and methods to keep this car on the road.

Cleaning things up would be cool and helpful...my 2 cents

Are you talking about cleaning up the main forum? I honestly have not found a lot of useful information in there anyway lol, all discussion, and most topics get repeated endlessly.

Im off next week so Ill try and open the FAQ forum so threads can be rated by stars. Ill also start a section called "The Lost archives" and try and stick a bunch of outdated stuff in there. If this works we can branch out from there.

LET THE VOTING BEGIN!

You have to open the thread and then use "rate this thread"

Let me know if you cant access the "rate this thread" star system for any reason...I do have the FAQ closed for comments at this time.

In the upper right hand of the top of this thread there should be a tab that says "rate this thread" its drops down with 1 to 5 stars?

Im in admin mode all the time when Im logged in so maybe its just working for me..

I think you have to open an individual thread before you see the menu.

@Blue what would it take to get some forum software written this century, so the peasants can figure it out more easily?

I dont think the software is to bad. Its just figuring out how to do things that are not done alot. its just a bunch of check boxes either on or off.

I find the youtube channel interface harder in alot of ways. At work if I dont know code I just find something similar and copy it. I have not seen a way to do that on Youtube. it took me a week to set up my channels like the popular youtubes guys have and its still not what I want.

A lot of forums are using a similar vBulletin software, but it could probably use an update. I complained a while ago that it does not support all of the normal BBCode rules, which is really silly

I am going to the posts, no vote option, but there is on posts in the 3geez section

See the difference here?

Oldblueaccord
03-31-2022, 11:31 AM
Yes understood.

Not sure why at this point. its something to do with the parent forum I think.

I may take a few posts and move them to the Lost forum and see if that makes a difference.

Are rights an issue here? I'm a mod so maybe that changes things?
