6 subs? do you lose nuts and bolts when you drive? your car has be rattle. man i think you have way too many subs in there.

dXsquared
03-10-2003, 01:46 PM
6 subs is alot.. but not that extreme... im thinkin of putting 4 15 inch woofers with 4 1200.1 amps in the back of my hatch... i know it will weigh alot.. but i can make it quick release and use a cherry picker to take it all out of the back... that would be funny

can someone please tell me the point of putting lots of random subs in your car?? if you ask me it must sound sloppy becuase they cant all have the same frequency response unless you tuned them properly. but IMO it seems like you threw in random stuff with no consideration of sound quality, you just want to tell people you have 6 subs in your car

HVerLX
03-10-2003, 04:13 PM
umm i work part time installing car stereos im full quality. its tuned perfict the clarity on the subs are sooo smooth and the speakers are even smother.... ive takin hours on tuning my equiptment so dont say what you dont know...

Nothing to brag about just a very low cost system:
Pioneer DEH-34 50wattX4 Mosfet Head-Unit
front: 6.5" Jensen 2-ways w/pivoting tweeters
rear: 6.35" Panasonic speakers, from friends stock 99' passat
200w 2 channel Optimus amp
2 jensen 250RMS subs which came in a dual bandpass box(only problem is the ports go straight up which rattel the hell out of my rear deck, and loosened my third brake light(gotta fix that soon))
total cost:$305

where did you get those subs???
honestly, they look like something I'd pick up at a local liquidation sale...carbon fiber? cmon, buy a real carbon fiber sub...not these Ames brand dealies...
and those speakers? I pulled a set of sony's from 3 years ago out of a wrecked car that look and prolly sound better than those...
As for the alpines, I have respect, but definitely not 1000 watts...:flip:

86hatchbackLXi
03-11-2003, 06:32 AM
ok where do i start... there is no way your 65 amp honda alternator can power your claimed 2600 watts of power. im running 350 watts and it is barely enough. i owned sony xplod subs and one point and sold them promptly because they distorted at high volumes and anything lower than 65Hz. i have yet to see an alpine amp rated at 1000 watts RMS. i wouldnt put anything in my car made by BOSS audio. and everything looks really nice sitting on the table , lets see what your install looks like. and who are you working for??? no professional would put 3 different subs in there car. thats all for now, im sure ill think of something else later

yeah I hear ya... Alot of people I know had probs with them, esp the subs... What did you guys hit db wise? It all comes down to that, not how many subs or how much power you have. I mean if so and so has 2 10s and he hit a 143 hes better than the guy with 4 12s that hit 136... you get the idea

Alpine 3 disk in dash head unit (free)
tiny little alpine amp (free)
2, 8" Pioneed subs in a Q logic box ($50 at a garage sale)
stock paper speakers
the subs are loud enough, although they could take a lot more power. a better amp would be the best thing, but i am thinking of getting rid of the subs, or moving them so they don't take up so much room in my trunk.

HVerLX
03-12-2003, 10:19 AM
its all in the setup. im finally realizing i need my ears for the future so im only going to put my orion shit in with my alpine.

dXsquared
03-12-2003, 10:36 AM
its definetly the setup... i paid 250 bucks for my bass... i put the subs in a .5 cube box for each sub and they were OK i thought.... i alsways had to turn the Non fade out UP on my deck to get it to bump a little harder.. now i built a 2 cube box for each sub and itt bumps sooo hard when the non fade out is at 0.. i usually have it at +3 for a bit more bump, but at -3 and max volume b4 distortion it still pounds..

i have 2 12 inch Jensen Subs, 2 300 watt jensen amps

Travis

dXsquared

Travis

pimp86LX
03-12-2003, 01:04 PM
setup is key. i would say there are two important things i keep in mind

1-sub/speaker airflow. Calculate the proper/most efficient volume for your subs, port or seal depending on type of music

2-wiring! routing/fusing and quality. i recently took my subs out of my box to find very shotty wiring. i used 22 guage braided copper with new terminals and convered all exposed wire with lithium grease. Also, before you go at installing a system, calculate everything! its a good idea to get a top view layout of your car and route your wires accordingly. avoid anything that could cause line noise, keep RCA and power as far apart as possible. Use proper guage wires. keep total power usage in mind, alt output etc. etc...

HVerLX

well said.

I used to own two of those Orion Ntense 15s and I have to admit those are nice speakers. I had them running off of an Orion 2250sx and I hit 147 db in my accord. They were not swap meet stuff back then (1996) but they may be by now because they are so old. I paid $460 each plus tax for them when they were new.
I haven't met HVerLX yet but if anybody doubts his stereo I can meet up with him and give it a listen. I have been into stereos for 12 years now and I know good systems when I see/hear them.

oops my bad, 22 was in there i put in 16 :P

damn typing too fast :D

p.s. my subs are 250w peak, i play a lot of rock music so my frq resp. is tuned for 200-450hz, it kicks plenty hard but put in some rap or something with a lower frequency kick and it wont sound as good.

I would also like to say to everyone..PLEASE balance your frequency evenly, what i mean is have a strong mid and high range as well as bass. I don't know how many times i've seen a car go by with the windows down, music cranked and i could only hear bass. i was like "what song is that?"

dXsquared
03-12-2003, 03:04 PM
thats also my philosophy... i have prelty of mid and highs.. and the bass doesnt drown the music out at all.. from 50 feet away and the system is cranked with the windows down, you can hear the words perfectly

You should have done your duty as a friend and told him to take back those rockwood subs.... gosh, should have gone with CDT's and Brahma's. :D

Last nite, a friend next door came over to ask me if I knew how to install an Amp. Mind you, this is a 20 year old Cowboy who laughs too loud. Anyways, I go over to check it out. .and lo and behold he tried to get the amp powered with the same power from the Deck and there was no remote turn wire hooked up.... *I dunnow what's wrong I followed the instructions*.. blah blah.. I told him to throw out the instructions and He needs to wire the power to the batter WITH a fuse and get a turn on wire to the deck. I advised he get an amp kit from walmart or something..

the next day, I went over to check on him and he was trying to get the power wire hooked to the battery, I didnt see a Fuse holder anywhere so, I asked him hey, where's the fuse holder? Oh, the dude at walmart said i didnt need one... I had to give him a lecture about the safety of using a fuse and the reasons why... He made him swear to me that he would get one tommorrow. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I'm going to be there to make sure he does it right.

he didnt even know what OHMs were or A cap was.........

Looks like I"m goin to be doing some more lecturing.....

But these thinks cost money and I need to finish my EFI conversion and get some Koni's to smoothen out my ride. That will be about $500 and I still need to pay for my ticket. Hmm. I wouldn't really waste time installing Rockwood, you may want to save up and get some higher end stuff. Rockwood is a cheap knockoff brand. I know, I used to carry their stuff. It's no different than Thump, Kenford, Mobile Authority, etc.

Justin86,

Do you want more than just loud? I could offer you a few different suggestions, ESPECIALLY for that much money, if you wanted more than just a driver that goes "BOOOOOOM" in your car. Most audiobahns are made for just boomy bass... not very SQ oriented subwoofers.

Check these out:

www.edesignaudio.com
www.adireaudio.com

For $50 more than your $250, you could get an e12a subwoofer (12") from Elemental Designs. They can handle upwards of 1300-1400 watts, have around 25 or 26 mm of xmax, and are supposed to sound unbelievably good, and have the ability to get insanely loud, like mid-140's if you have it in the right ported box. Or if you wanted to wait a month, you could pre-order the 15 inch version... that's what I did and I can't wait for it! :D

For about $250 you could get two adire audio Shivas. Each one (12") can handle 600 or so watts. My friend had two of these with about 700 watts going to each, and it slammed pretty damn hard.

If you're more into SPL, then check out:
http://www.respl.com/

They've got several different lines of subs that are all quality, but geared towards different things.

87DXHatch

Or you could buy two e12k's and feed them ~700 watts each. I did an install for a friend with 1 e12k and ~600 watts and it slams pretty hard, but not nearly as hard as the two Shiva set-up. It also sounds very good too, not sloppy at all.

Here's mine:
Sony Xplod h/u 650x (i think...)
Sony Xplod 6.5" 3-ways in front
Sony Xplod 6x9" 3-ways in rear
Kenwood 250W amp (volume adjustable from front seat - custom)
2 JBL 10" subs (i know...not the best, but they sound good to me)
Rockford Fosgate .500 farad capacitor (i was surprised how much that helped, even with a puny system)
And mostly just for shits and giggles (and so I didn't ruin them), I got some of those Kicker sub cover things...kinda look like claws or something over the subs...pretty cool as far as i'm concerned.

Some guys diss on Sony, Xplod's included, but I have absolutely no complaints. I love my stereo!! :D
