Ok, I have an 87 hatch with Fi and off the gas it likes to pop/backfire!!Ill be just crusin in gear and let off and it will pop!! The timeing has not been touched!!! It has done this as long as can remember!! It does not throw any code!!! I have a full exhaust inc header and an ignition coil!!! WHat would make my car do this?? Someone told me A/f ratio could be wrong but my gauge doesnt read abnormal when this happens!!!HELP:wtf:

I think backfiring is caused my fuel igniting in the exhaust so I would guess that you might have some sort of ignition problem. That would sometimes let a cylinder full of air and fuel into your hot exhaust pipe and ignite it there. It's just an idea though, I've never had a problem like that myself so I'm just guessing.

do a tune up with cap rotor and plugs, then see if it still does it

I have done plugs twice in in two months. I have a accel coil with wires that are less than 3mos old!! The cap and roter were fine!!! Im sure what else to check!!! When it does this my A/f gauge bounces around more!!! Usally when i get off the gas the A/f gauge reads nothing-below lean!!! :werd: I dont know!!!

have a cat? if so.. clean it or replace it... if it still pops... mak sure its a back fire... it might just be the noise our cars make
