swap lights from 89 to 86?

just wonderin if you can directly swap taillights from an 89 to and 86 incase i buy my friends 86...

You can only go sedan to sedan. You can't go from coupe to sedan or vice versa.

I thought you could go from coupe to sedan as long as it wasn't a hatchback.

No, you can't interchange between coupe and sedan because the coupes had that extra black strip on the bottom of the taillights that the sedans didn't. Because of this strip, the metal panel underneath each taillight is not as tall as the ones on the sedan. If you went from coupe to sedan it wouldn't fit at all, and if you want from sedan to coupe it might fit but there would be a big ass gap under the lights. Gotta stick to your own body style

Too bad the info was NOT correct...

You can only swap the outer taillights from a Sedan. The 86-87 and 88-89 use a different trunk lid. So it will not work. Swaping the outer taillights will only look dump because the pattern doesn't match with the trunk. It will look Ghetto

Very correct carotman. You HAVE to but a new trunklid in order to swap. If you don't believe me, go look at the back side of the 89 lid and look at the size of the holes for the lights. Now go look at the 86. Much smaller huh?
