Howdy guys. I am absolutly fascinated with the wealth of carb knowledge at this website. Between A20a1's civic intake and that intake that mindlos rigged up, its unbeleiveable, so much custom fab! Anyways, to my questions.

Its no secret that the carbed 3rd gen accord/dual carbed 2nd gen prelude lack power. However, sources say that i make all my power at around 5400 (6200 redline). However, it seems like my power starts to dwindle starting at 5200-5400, it pulls it hardest, from the butt dyno anyways, at around 4000. My question is, could it be an intake problem? Ive read all these threads on intakes, now its got me all curious. I just had the car tuned up about 2k miles ago and the head was rebuilt less than 40k ago, so im wondering, is the butt dyno wrong, or am i just not making any power there? And if im not, what could be the culprit? Im a newbie carb person, so i dont quiet understand the concepts. Any help/insight/opinions are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

btw, sorry for the long post!

::EDIT::

For all of you who arent familiar with the lude engine bay, pics will be up in the morning! Hope it'll help.

Actually since carbs depend on vacuum, you'll need a nice balance between the exhaust setup and the carb... and hopefully a cam.
The exhaust will help move the gasses out so the carb can suck more air in.

It's good to check out the vacuum in the manifold at wide open throttle... if manifold vacuum doesn't drop to 0" then you should upgrade the intake for sure. and possibly the entire carb.

Since you have dual carbs your intake might be easier to fabricate with parts from other performance side draft carbs... a large open K&N oval filter should fit... but then I'd have to see the stock set up first.

I have dual TWM Sk Racing carbs with a manifold for the A18. $400 and the set up is yours. I have pics and they would definitely add some kick. They are similar to 40 serie webers

There may not be anything wrong with your engine. You say peak power is at 5400 rpm, so you would expect the power to fall off after that. Also, the butt dyno reacts to torque, so it's possible that your peak torque is around 4000 rpm. You'd have to look at the dyno curves to know for sure.

Well, i got some pics for ya a20. But, as you can see, running an open filter wouldnt work too well i think, as the airbox is on its side, therfore the filter might fall out.

88lxi: Thanks for the offer, ill definatly keep that in mind.

Are carb installs all that hard as some people say? Because if it isnt, then ill have to think more closley about some new carbs.

Man that guy has a pimp lude, now i see what you're sayin. However, with that setup, isnt he drawing in alot of warm air, seeing how the filters are behind the engine? Would i have to make any modification to the carbs in order to do that kind of setup?

not if you buy carbs and intake manifold from 88LXi68.
he has the setup for your car right now.
talk to him.

here they are. Let me know, these will definitely increase horsepower.

damn it, why can't lude manifold fit on accord. Damn it.

I was thinking the same thing Shepard. I would love to put dual 40s in my accord but I just can't afford them for one and can't make the manifold.

Well, getting back to the point, would it be possible to mount cone filters on the stock carbs like the ones pictured above? If so, what mods have to be done in order to do so. Thanks in advance.

can you remove the air cleaner and take pics... just take that black thing off and snap a few shots of the carb and the air cleaner itself.

And about the aircleaner, its a giant oval K&N that encompasses both carbs. Hope this helps, and thanks for your help as well guys!

That engine bay looks like Medusa. I used to think mine was bad before I removed the lines.

Seriously bro, i just dont have enough knowledge as to which lines i can or can't remove.

I wouldnt know either. As long as you dont have vacuum leaks to the ass end of nowhere you should be okay. My car was acting funny on idle and driving so I removed them with direction from the forum. That's really why I did it.

well the pan for the most part looks flat... unlike the downdraft carb pans... you could always flip the lid :D

I dunno... It really a tradeoff between more hot air or less cold air... I'm sure there will be a point when one gives more power then the other.

I'm wondering if keihin sells stack filters that will fit your side drafts CV carbs. I'm gonna have a look at their site if I can find the damn link.

Thanks for all your help guys!

I know a guy with a base lude, hes gonna go about a way to make an actual intake for the a18. He was supposed to get the materials this last weekend; im assuming he'll start working on it this weekend. I'm guessing its going to be an adapter like on yours a20, however i can only speculate.

wow thanks for that link... I always find a keihin / (enter other carb company here) web sites...

hehe I realize now that if I went up to one of the keihin scientists that designed out Keihin and showed him what I did to it... I'd probably be shot... :D
