tranny question

i've already looked in how-to and related parts. when i'm driving i get to 30 and it revs up to above 3000. the last time it was in the shop the mechanic mentioned that he noticed it slipped in 3rd. does anyone know what causes a tranny to slip gears? would it be at all possible to fix it myself? oh, and what do i look for when i'm checking my belts. how do you know when they are in need of being replaced? thanks for any answers. :bow:

Hmm not sure what up with the trans is it Manual or Auto.

As for the belts.. look on the inside part of the belt where the grooves are... check for cracks in the rubber. If it has cracks then you should replace it when you can. If you see the cracks are deep or you see the blet splitting on the outside then replace it as soon as you can.

if the Timing belt has teeth missing replace it.
