i put my air compressor in my trunk and it punctured a hole and put a few dents in my subwoofer. it has some sort of metal cone. will it have an effect on it?

not only will your box not be air tight (which you need) you jacked that sub up (which is bad).

jacked it up? why would my box need to be air tight?

well if it tweaked your voice coil or surround it could be bad, but ive seen kids with beat to all hell subs that held up well and sounded good. I knew one kid with infinity perfects that he had dented all over... it just depends how hard and at what angle they were hit. Not every hit is fatal

it was on the outer edge. it dented the outer edge a bit and there is about a half inch hole next to that. often times when im done working on the 3 gee's body for the day i pack up the air compressor and throw it in the trunk. i guess there'll be no more of that.

hmm that sounds bad... if there is a hole in the cone or surround its probably new sub time. What subs do yuo have?

this is the 3 gee so these are the subs that i got on clearance for 10 dollars at walmart. i did it just so i could have music while working oin the car. the sub still gives off bass but i have noticed an awful rattle at high volume.

probably because its bottoming out from the hole... youll blow it if you keep playing it like that in all likelyhood. I say... do it

if the sub is poked dont worry it won tbe that bad, if its ripped, then its gonna get worse every time u use the sub. its not gonna be good anymore. My friend with the Infinity subs has a small dent in it cause his umbrella poked it, did not make a hole, but a small dent on the cone. but it sounds fine.

I had a Pioneer 12" sub in my old car. Well, I beat the crap outa that sub, then it started makin a farting sound. I cracked it, from the center to the surround lol. Got some duck tape, and I was good as new :).

Yeah, dont get in the habit of using duct tape on your subs, lol. My one sub had a bad foam surround that got slit a little and i took some silicone and some tape to hold the form of the surround and it worked great, and lasted til the sub blew up. My other friend tried using tape to hold on his dustcaps on his Audiobahn 1200qs... lets just say that didnt work, at all
