i've noticed a few of you on here talking about the drivers side rear view mirror vibrates or shakes and rattles or whatever. mine doesnt do this and i was just wondering why some peoples might do that.

My rearview shakes, not sure how I can stop it (with radio up loud or at high speeds).

How many of you have the rubber thing that goes between the rearview and windshield? I do.

there are two screws when you look at the mirror from under ! tighten them and you would get the shake ! ( well that what i did anyway ! )

You know GhettoAccord, I actually do have that rubber thing! I have had it for years and had forgotten what the heck it was. Thanks for the reminder, although I don't think I'll be putting it back where it "belongs". I don't think it was ever necessary, was it?

MrBen

Not really, I use it for my parking permit (I slip the permit between the rubber thing and the windshield).

I don't think it came with some accords. My mom and dad's 88 didn't come with it, and they've had it since it came off the lot.

My driver side only wen the bass is turned up also for me. My interior mirrior vibrates more then the door mirriors from the bass, even though i have that rubber thing you guys mentioned.

well back to the topic:

if your mirrors dont shake, you need more bass.

my whole damn car vibrates regardless whether or not i have the bass on. that's why im putting in a new engine.

try adjusting your idle. its a little cheaper.

that was a stupid statment. it vibrates because it has fried piston rings a warped head work valve seals and guides as well as a severley worn carburetor.

MrBen

That'll do it.

However, I'm going to spend money once and rebuild my engine or get a JDM import. Buying one off another 3g is begging for problems down the road. Unless you're going to sell it, but it sill would be wise to spend money once if you have it. I know JDM imports run around 700 in my area.

well i paid 225 bucks for the car so i thought it was plenty worth it since it's a great running complete car. it has higher miles but im going put the motor in my car to sell the car and it'll run great for the next owner as long as they are key on maintinece. one these cars get past 150k you need to baby them.

MrBen

Yeah no shit, I have almost 250k. Still got as much pep as 100k ago though I'm sure.

Anyway, I guess I should tighten my rearview mirror. That's too much work though.

These car can take a little abuse here and there, dont need to baby it most of the time. That is the key to living long, keep up with your maintenance. I got 275K and getting better mileage then the window sticker said, all original motor and auto tranny.

MrBen

Original motor and tranny here as well, getting 350 to 420 miles a tank. The motor's about gone due to previous owner not taking care of it. When I got the car, I tightened everything up, which is probably why my mirrors dont shake.

Mine don't shake at all.... nice and tight :) On the other topic, I too am getting better mileage than the window sticker says (hell even with the a/c on it's still consistantly 2.5-3mpg higher than the sticker says). Original motor and tranny here too with 315k, but mine has been meticulously maintained it's whole life since brand new, and still runs and drives as if it were new.

mine dont at all, wtf is up with yours can you just adjust the screws?

1987HondaAccord

for me, its the glass in the mirror that shakes, not the mirror housing. i could try adjusting the screws, but i only notice the shaking when i am going fast. I don't have a screwdriver ready when that happens...

Well my whole car shakes from the BASS. And it sounds mean b/c of the carb and mods.

1987HondaAccord

right... but tightening up the screws for the housing wont help hold the glass still will it?
