I'm doing almost the same thing with an extra set I have, but I'm making semi Clears, But with clear plexiglass instead, croming the insides of the units, using LED Red and Amber bulbs...trying to get that new car look.

HOW TO!!!

Chubs87Accord
04-17-2003, 06:22 AM
-take a blow dryer on high (or heat gun on not so high) heat the edges of the plastic on the tail lights
-after you hold it initially for about 2 minutes in one spot either use your fingers or a screwdriver to start prying off the plastic
-then just heat and lift as you go.. (dont throw plastic away)
-remove all glue remaining on tail assembly..
-get good chrome paint from pep boys or something
-paint tailight assembly (use LIGHT coats until done, let each coat dry)
-while at pep boys pick up a few reb bulbs for the tails (2 birds 1 stone and such)
-go to home depot and pick up a nice sheet of plexi glass as this as the plastic you removed, and of course make sure plastic is big enough to cut all the pieces out of :D -also pick up STRONG, and CLEAR glue, and clear sealent
-PRAY you dont screw the next steps up!!
-measure and mark out what you need to cut out of the plexiglass to make the new inserts
-cut using a dremel or other high power rotary tool-
BE VERY PRECISE
-once that is done make sure theres no shaving from the plexiglass on it (just wash it in the sink with some water, DONT put it in the dishwasher)
-for the corners you have to bend them, do that by putting int one the tail light assembly (without glue) and using the heat gun (at a safe distance and only on the part that has to bend) let the plexi glass heat up a little were you can bend it by pushing lightly
-hold plexiglass down in place until it cools
-use the clear glue and go along the edges of the taillight assembly (remember where ya had to heat to get it off :) )
once plexi glass is on hold it down to make sure its a good seal until dried -if long drying glue put assebly down (or upside down) and put enough weight on it to make sure its a good seal-
-once all dried, take the sealent and put some in any tiny gaps that you may have along the edges.. hopefully they are small

--and as always.. use COMMON SENCE!!!!

its fairly simple. have fun in your experiments

I dig the red and clear tails that come stock on the 91 preludes, my friend has that car, and i think they look really good, but i guess they have more of a whitish tint than totally clear, they look european

how hard would it be to do it on hatchback tails

Chubs87Accord
04-19-2003, 06:04 AM
easier than sedan or coupe tails since hatch tails are one big piece.. but it probablly wouldnt look that right.. theres a lot of 'extra' crap in the hatch tails.. but try it, maybe youll like it.. if not just glue the original plastic back on

I think that clear tails look good for a show car, but I hate them on the street. I have almost rearended so many people with them on their cars, it just makes it so damn hard to see the brake lights.

Personally i like the normal colored ones but clears are cool for show, I agree with danronian almost hit a truck with clear tails at a sport truck show once pissed me off a lot.........

I am getting my ctail lights done by a friend of mine who too is on the board, won't mention name though don't want him to get mad, but any ways The top part of the tails where it's orange is getting a new change, instead of it being orange it is going to be clear... so now the tails will look like this... the top portion of the tails where originally was orange will now be clear and the red portion will stay red.... I have already seen the first steps of what my tails will look like... I went to my buddies shop about a week ago and he showed me how far he has gone with my project.... Looks good... keep it up bro.. I know you hve alot of cars to repair in the body shop but so far so looking good bro... I can't wait til there done they are bad azz...

i really cant stand clear tails on alot of cars..but the 3g is one i think they do look decent on. I think the color has alot to do with it too. Clear tails on a black car look really good while on most white cars dont. But these clears are really amazingly nice...kinda wishing i had some.

How does that make any sense? The CAR we drive is rice...so everything factory on the car already is rice. I dont see a point in that post.

I personally hate clears, but those ones are pretty unique. The only real first "clears" that actually resemble their name.

i'd really like clear or red/clear ones. i wonder if i'm too lazy to make them though, sounds like a lot of work that i could mess up..i wonder if anyone would make them for me for a good price :)

Morbid Intentionz

Well since these are the first pair i have made, ive thought about sellin them or maybe even trading back to stock ones for now. They are nice but a few "blemishes" Still need to be fixed.
