i have an 88 accord lx automatic, i am replacing the axels and i can't get the lower ball joint to sepperate from the steering nuckle, i got a 5 ton puller and it wont stay griped, and i tried a hammer to both sides and at downward striking angles, HHHEEELLLPPP?

Clean the part where the jaws of the puller grips to from the grease.
Or give the 'fork" a try.

i tried the fork and it seemed to beg for the ball joint

loosen teh nut ( not all the way ) hit it with a BIG FUCKIN HAMMER at the SIDE ! 2 strong hits will pop here out !

Do you really have to separate the lower ball joint from the steering nuckle to get the axle out?

i remove the bolts for the shocks and the axle bolt, it should come right out...

hey did you remove the snap ring around it? If you didnt youd have to break the entire knuckle to get the F in bJ out

i got it off.......finally...........i put a jack under the rotor and jacked it up some and used the "fork" and it came off no problem. and i did try a big hammer.

Be careful with the fork you do not want to split the rubber boot around the ball joint.I use a gear puller,center on the stud and the jaws on the lower control arm.
