Engine difference

Ok guys this is a big question, What is the difference between a 1990-1993 accord engine versus say 1987-1989 besides EFI.

4 valves per cyl (not 3)
balance shaft equiped
200cc more displacement

That's what I can think of off the top of my head, sure theirs more.

Please tell me your NOT thinking of trying to install one in a 3g.

No just thinking about wether parts off the 1990- 1993 would fit my 87 Dx HB. Like the headers, exhaust, etc; The upgrade performance stuff.

No, they won't fit... nothing is universal. That's why the parts are seperate, different applications require different parts.

Oh ok, just wondering so I dont buy the wrong stuff when I get my new exhaust, header, and cat this summer. One other question are the engines in CRXs, Accord, Preludes, and Civics the same from 1987-1989.Besides EFI of course.

3G Accords have the A20 motors to whereas 4G Accords have the F22 motor. No, not the F22 jet's motor.

Perfomance parts-wise, I don't think any will fit. Maybe the intake, but I'm not sure about that.

prelude, civic, and crx all changed generations in 88... i know for a fact that there are some major differences between 87 and 88 prelude engines, as i've had both (sorta, first lude was an 83, similar engine to the base 87, current lude is an 89)...

accord vs. prelude generations are sorta weird... 3g accords = 2g ludes, yet 4g accords = 4g ludes... it's odd... 3g lude is kinda left out...

Ok just wondering guys. Kind of had a random thought about putting a Prelude engine in a Pinto but it was too funny to think of seriously. HEHEHE. Anyways thanks guys I found the parts I needed. And there for my car! hehe, thanks guys.

I like the A20 compared to the F22, it seems to last hella lot longer and is tougher. Neither put out tons of power and are huge performers. The intake manifolds are hugely different but i believe certain parts can be adapted to fit in a pinch, moslty non performance items like fuel injectors.

Yeah i think the A20s last longer than the newer ones, my friends dad has had his 88 accord LX since he bought it new and its running fine, versus his daughters 98, its had problems since she bought it new. Kind of weird but i think it has to do with all the new technology and computer shit. Not as stable as a good old fashioned carbed engine. just my thought on it though.

I agree. This is one of the reasons why I've chose to stick with older cars. Electrical problems can be a pain in the ass.

Yeah I here you on that one Blue, sometimes technology isnt as good as the originals.

A lot of aftermarket parts from a 1990 integra can be slitly modifide to fit a 1988 LXI.
