RPM notworking

My tach is not working on my 88 accord ill be honest w/ u before i bought it had been reconditioned but i dont know how bad of a wreck it was and im wandering if they forgot to hook it up but i do know the front end is an 86

man, it was one long sentence i couldn't understand.
anyway, it could be that the tach itself is shot or not connected.
did it work when you got the car?

but.....every once in a while it will jump up or come on and then drop off

check the blue wires coming off the distributer and coming out of the fuse box under the hood that lead to the starter coil

id try a different cluster after changing the coil. If the engine runs the coil is probably hooked up right, but it could be damaged internally
