View Full Version : What motor do I have?

In my glovebox is the Honda brochure from 1988, and it describes the engine in my LX as a 100 HP single downdraft (I read that as being carburated) motor.

I do not feel my engine is carb, with the fuse for the fuel pump being present (I'm 95% sure I saw one), etc...

Also the car starts up every time without giving it a shot of gas.

The top of the engine where the air cleaner is, has an oval case with two butterfly screws to gain access to the air cleaner assembly.

Does this sound like the 1.9 carb motor? It can't be, because I see an O2 sensor.

Now I'm confused! :)

Does single downdraft mean a throttle body fuel injection system???

Thanks in advance. Ummm... yeh.. before anybody else does it... :stupid: ;)

Huh?

Carbed?!?!?! With an oxygen sensor?!?!?

What the hell!!!

That is one heck of a carburated system for 88... LOL!

Thanks for the info!

There must be some electronic metering, because the car never needs gas to get started. Ever.

and YES a carbed car has a fuel pump fuse BUT NOT a FUEL RELAY !
i bet what you saw wasn't O2 sensor , may be somthing for EGR .
tha car starts right up : well don't you just love honda's ! :D

A stock DX or LX would be carbed and a stock LX-i or SE-i would be fuel injected.

Your LX is carbed, just look under the air cleaner lid!

We have one O2 sensor for controlling the emissions components, where FI has 2.

To set the carb idle cams properly, you should gently press the accelerator pedel to the floor twice before starting.

That pump puts out about 3-5 psi, tops. FI systems want 40. Similar in size though, makes the conversion easy...
