I found this at my local futureshop for only $119CAN !!!
I listened to it, and compared it with others (and more expensive) such as kenwood, pioneer, mtx, etc and This was the best sounding

what do you guys think!

1200 peak watts
350rms power handling
rubber surround <- NOT just urethane
4ohm
$119!!!

Be careful with sony they rate their stuff way to high on peak handling. they hit em with a lightning bolt size of power and if it dont melt the sub then they rate it high peak wattage. Kind of shady if you ask me

i think the best bang for the buck subs are prolly kicker comp VRs (not just comp, they suck) and they have the santoprene surrounds and the damn things are nearly indestructable

well i bought it, it sounds amazing. I'm kind of weary of cranking it right up, but i would be with any brand new speaker.

Its rock solid so far

what amp do you have, and what box are u using it in too? Those can be the difference between blowing it and not... Also its good to break the subs in before you thrash them, it helps the spiders, and surround get a little softer

I have a homemade 1.5^3ft mdf, 3" ported box. powered buy a 200w rms audiovox amp. IT sounds great. I've turned it up a little today, a lil more tommorow and so forth. i used to be the anti-sony guy, but im very impressed with this sub

p.s. i've never had a sub with rubber surround before, i wonder if it will get softer

it will get softer i have 2 kenwood DB+'s and they rubber surround and they got softer so you can almost expect it.

k.. would i be correct to assume that the rubber will be more durable than the urethane? it seems thicker, stronger etc...but i'm just not too sure about it

How about this set up. Make a little custom sub box using the area where the spare tire sits. So you would have a sud that sit flush with the rest of the trunk. I've seen this on some other cars and it looks sweet and you still have plenty of trunk space left.

You always break in a sub its a rule man, play it at low-mid volume for a couple of days or a long road trip then feel free to crank that $%^& up man. About the sony never heard or used the new ones but the old ones were crap in my opinion.

No, at 170 db, you go instantly deaf and usually pass out. They are telling him that because they have no idea what's going on: They are either incredibly stupid, or they want the guy to buy stuff from them so they make him feel welcome.

As for Xplod subs... overpriced, and under-quality-ed equipment. Subs are overratted, electronics are prone to failure... overall they don't have a lot going for them, but if you are happy with it, then good for you.

Personally, for subs, I'd check out www.adireaudio.com or www.edesignaudio.com

that was exactly my attitude. However, i went in and actually listend to all the subs, and not only were they the most inexpensive, but offered the best sound (to my ears) for the application.

Sony has come a long way.
