Ok here's the deal I have an automatic tranny that is giving me nothing but a pain in the ass and a huge pain in my walet.
First the car won't shift out of 1st and then it skips gears and sometimes won't take off the line without jerking. I talked to a tech at a tranny shop and let him test drive my car. He told me the best thing to do for now is to change out the tranny fluid and put a lube in with it and see how that works if not start saving for a new tranny.
Well that pissed me off...
.. A NEW TRANNY = around $2200 = almost what i paid for my car.

If the tranny flush workks I'll be happy if not, bye bye LX-i.

Any other ideas? write back soon :(

You can get an auto tranny for closer to $500. Check around with shops and see what they would charge to install it (unless you're brave enough to try it yourself)

Well. I know what you probably want right now is support, but I'm not familiar with automatic tranys. But I am familiar with the LXi, and if it really is going bye bye, could it go bye bye my way? I rather need a parts car. So if it's out the door with the LXi, I wouldn't mind takeing it off your hands....

when ambers tranny went out it cost us $75, $10 core charge, and 2 days. 1 to take it off a junked car, and another to install it.

2200 is way too much, tell your mechanic to fuck off

I don't know if you guys could be farther apart geographically!!! I know you could find one closer to you.

All you haters... $2200 is what a good, rebuilt AT costs for our cars. You can go to the yard and roll the dice, you can get a cheap rebuild for $1000. But if you wanna do it right, with updated parts that are better than stock... it is about $2000. Mine was a whopping $2500!! I tried like hell to find a used one that was better than mine, but they were all bad. Mine needed new gears and all that. I even saw the old parts when the guy took them off my car/trans. That hurt, but I knew going in that our AT's are weak. I even tried to find a place to just rebuild mine and I'd get the labor done, but it was still $$$$. Mine runs great now, just wish it wasn't so damn expensive. I did it right, though.

You could prolly find a junked 3gee with a manual easy. Were there more manual or auto 3geez built?
