hi guys !
want your advice on this !
what would be the best ignition timing setting ! it 's getting hot around here 30 >>> 40 'C !
i am running 18 now !

should i change to 20 or 22 degrees ! ?
if i change to 20 or 22 will increase the RPM kick or decrease it !
i run octane 90 fuel !

BTW i am carbed 5spd manual and fully stock ! !

thanx a lot guys !

Gee Mike my service manual says 24 degrees (BTDC) for manual 49ST carbureted engine at 800 rpm (the red mark). No allowance is made for ambient temperature.

This is bizarre. How do I include a photo? My 88 Service Manual is the second edition 1/88 second print 11/88. Under Specs 3-9, Section 24 Engine Electrical and page 24-7 it lists following measurements for ignition timing all at idling (MT 800, Automatic 730 rpm),
carbureted engine manual 49ST 24+/-2 degrees BTDC, CAL 20+/-2 automatic transmission all models 15 +/- 2 degrees BTDC
Fuel Injected engine all models 15 +/- 2 degrees
All are indicated by a Red Mark.
If I were you I would look at the label on the front hood to confirm. Mine clearly states 15 degrees (I have LXi). My label is red with some reference to Catalytic Converter then it lists various specifications eg. idle speed.

Bill > your service manual is for american cars ( i think ) with A20A1 engines ! but i didn't know it differs that much !

anyway i 'll go and set at 20 !

I always set my timing on red mark i|i on the drive plate (AT). The decal under the hood says the advance is ~15*. So what's wrong with that?
Where is the BS engine in the pic ? So my model could be KQ ?

Sorry about the misunderstanding. I guess I should have realized you were in a warmer climate with the 30-40 degree description. I was going to ask about EX since in the U.S. there was only DX, LX, Lxi, Sei.

man this degrees do make a difference ! i have set it at 20 degrees ! and it pinged ( which means how shitty is teh gas that sold here though it's octance 90 :flip: ) when i floored it ! so i set it back a bit say 19 >19 .5 ! and man the car was really choked up before ! not i really restroed my power ! :D
and i also fixed the hard kick thing problem that was in this thread !

I also get that kick too -- I call it my Pre-TEC ;)

I have to adjust my timing to get it to have constant power?

you really can't imagine the kick that i had ! and i really had shity power before that ! as long as you have good power i wouldn't mess with it !
