I must be blind.

I triple-checked my books and scanned the board.

There is a computer box, looking very much like an ECU, underneath the driver's seat of my 88 LX. I will be pulling wires tonight to figure out what this thing does and whether or not I can toss it.

I'm swapping in a whole new engine/ECU/wiring/tranny so if it is strictly engine I don't need it.

Does it get the axe?

LX are carbureted engines. Yah, there is a box there, is not a computer, they call it "Emission Control Circuit". All sensors and solenoids in the engine bay are tied to this box. Now some guys here tossed most of the emissions crap (see Carb section) so for them the box is not of much use. However there are some useful solenoids there, i.e. Primary Slow cut-off solenoid or Idle Boost solenoid which control the idle..

solenoids, run-lean, idle lean, egr, et cetera.

All useless for my swap (I looked at it last night), so out it goes.

Nice to know, however. I still have an 89 SE-i to maintain. ;)
