I've heard people talking about it, but I have no idea what it is.

Clutch in, move stick to neutral, clutch out, clutch in, move stick to desired gear, clutch out.

Totally unnecessary for our syncro-mesh transmissions, but crucial for most large trucks.

Correct on the procedure but incorrect on the necesity. Back in the days of old the standard transmission was made with out synchros and you had to double clutch to keep the klund from comming from the gear box as the gears wouldnt be moving at the right speed. In "Big trucks" synchros arnt needed because of the short RPM range of diesel trucks and the size of the gears. To shift a big truck you just pull on the shifter tward the gear that you want and let off of the throttle, the large gears will just suck it right into gear. it is called floating the gears, the opnly time you need the clutch is when you start out in low gear and when you switch from low to high range, and when down shifting while slowing to a stop (an experianced trucker dosent need to do it in the last case.)

When I sit at the light, getting ready to take off, I put the clutch pedal in, move the shifter to second then first. This is habit... but does anyone else do it?

i used to do something kinda like that when i had a stick. I learned to downshift at stops, so i would downshift all the way to second, then brake and put the clutch in. After i was stopped, i would just shift it from second to first, w/ the clutch in of course. Is that what u mean?

Double clutching is :gay: It ruined my last clutch. That's why you can see why I think it's :gay:

I don't downshift that much. If I'm coming to a light I just step on the brake and pop it in neutral. THen when I'm getting ready to go, I go from neutral to 2nd, then 1st.

It must be a new mod installing a clutch pedal in your auto, right? :D
