hey guys

was wondering how to advance my timing from the distributor and also what advancing and retarding does and how it would benefit me thanx:pimp:

Advancing/retarding the distributor will fire the spark plugs a certain degree before the piston reaches top dead center (TDC, before tdc(BTDC)) when compressing the air/fuel mixture.
The thing to remember is that the combustion after the spark plugs fire doesn't occur instantaneously. It takes some time for the spark to burn the combustion and push the piston back down.
So playing with the timing makes a difference of when you fire the spark plugs and hence when the mixture explodes. The recommended timing is a compromise for fuel economy and power.
Depending on how much you advance, you might have to run higher octane gas so that it doesn't detonate. You'll also be using more gas. But will have better acceleration.

do a search on how to do timing. It should be somewhere.
