Man I wish I could help. I have the same problem with my Lx. It does it at ramdom and really pisses me off. I belive it is a problem with carbs cause my truck has a weber carb on it and it does the same thing as my car.

If it's a fuel problem... it might be a dirty carb or filters...

if its an ignition problem it might be the distributor... or distributor wires...

It could also be a vacuum leak... most likely distributor advance vacuum, brake booster vacuum, or idle diaphragm vacuum. They all tap into Manifold vacuum... so a leak in one place will effect the rest.

also check the regular stuff like oil, radiator fluid, cap and rotor, and spark plugs.

Different oil? That would be a new one. I could try it out if it still does it after I get the EFI working.

I just put new NGK's in it and the Fuel filters are both brand new.
I put a bottle of Cheveron fuel system cleaner and now it is running fine. I could just be getting shitty gas all over town or something. I don't know Ill let you guys know what I come up with. Thanx for the ideas

its most likely a vacuum leak. actually I would bet money on it.

"thicker oil"? i almost hurt myself i laughed so hard...

When i had this problem bout 1year ago, it was a ..rusty fuel filler pipe. Found like 1/2 of fine mud in carb bowl. From time to time, it was getting into those fine idle passages, blocking them. Removed, rebuild the carb, cleaned fuel tank, replaced filler pipe (recall).
