The other day I was just thinking to myself "where was my car made?". I know that almost all new Honda's are made in North America, but what about the older ones? This may be a stupid question but does anyone know the answer?

My 3g was made at the Sayama plant.... it's not a crappy US car :) :)

Seriously, I have an 89 DX and an 89 SE-i as a parts car... the SE-i was US made and the welds aren't the same... they are chunky and ugly on the SE-i.

Mine is an 86 Sedan DX made in Japan.

Mine was built in Japan :)

To tell where yours was made, if your VIN begins with JHM then it was made in Japan, and if it's 1HG then it was made in Ohio. Or if you have a coupe or any SE-i, then it was made in Ohio.

Actually all coupes were made in Ohio. The whole coupe idea was that of Honda of America Manufacturing. Some of them were even exported back to Japan from the US, and Honda was the first ever Japanase auto maker to do this. For the needles, origin had nothing to do with it. All 86 had outward pointing needles, and all 87-89 had inward pointing needles.

yup.. mine is also a JHM...but from whati remember.. almost all of the older cars.. prior to 89/90 were made in Japan and imported over...so anyone with an 86-87 should all be JHM...i believe it was some of the 88/89 models that were made in the US..
my Se-i was made in US..

i have 2 87 LX-i's.. a sedan and a hatchback... both were made in ohio. does that mean that they weren't made with the same precision as the japanese built ones? since Honda built both plants wouldn't the machines they use to build the cars be the same here and in japan?

Yeah Ohio almost got another plant by me. Honda was looking at the old ford plant that closed down begining of the year, but Ford wouldn't sell.
