I want a real good quality set of speakers to go in my back, but I don't know what to look for. I see alot on various web sites and stores, but I don't know much about the companies. I've been looking at Pioneer, Kenwood, and Sony. I know those are some of the most popular brands, but are they quality speakers?

And what does it mean when it says it's a 2,3, or 4-way speaker??

And what is a good peak Watt for a 6x9?

Thanks for the help.

I am very very satisfied with Pioneer. I have two older ones in the front, and brand new ones in the back, and the bass and clarity is great. I've listened to many speakers and Pioneer supercedes them all in my opinion. Mine are three way 180 watts. I suggest them strongly :)

i like ALPINE. Yes they are overpriced sometimes, but i just love the sound they make. Nothing can compare to them in my opinion.

In my experience, Alpine speakers aren't much to speak of. Sure, they're good speakers, but Pioneer is better in my opinion.

Opinions, opinions.....

Pioneer is a great all around 6x9. There are others that are better and worse. It's not worth having a big discussion about what's better. Everyone has an favorite. However, In my experience Pioneer is the best middle ground.

yea I must agree. I've never owned Pioneer speakers but I am impressed by their bang for the buck. It's just that nothing beats the sound of a raw woofer that handles loads of amplifier power. Kickers play loud as f*** too on even regular head unit amps but they're more pricey

I'd go with Pioneer as well, I had some TS-A6969's hooked up to my amp and they would scream pretty loud.

Thats right!

I have a set of three way infiniti 6953i's in both my 2000 and 1991 Accords both running off of amps. It sounds like I have a 8 or 10 inch in the trunk.

Of course you have to realize they were like 150 dollars brand new. So you basicly pay for what you get.

Oh and those are 150 watts rms not peak so they work best with an amp. You really don't get much without running an amp.

I'm not big on subs, maybe an 8 or 10 in the back or something, but if I just wanted to get something loud and you could feel the bass still with out getting subs, I'd need a 4 channel amp right? And how many watts? I'm kinda low on $$$ right now, so would 500 sound good?

So hows this for a set up?

It'll probably cost more, But i would buy two amps both 2 Channel. One being to push the Fronts at about 60 Watts RMS and One for the Rears pushing about 120 Watts RMS. See if you buy the 4 channel amp the rears will be under powered and wont "Play" at their full potential.

Thats why amps have gain ajustment.....for just that type of setup.

No, Because if he turned the gain up to match that of the RMS specs of the rear speakers (Wich is 110 watts) he would be over powering the fronts by 55 watts, So that would be doubling the RMS Spec of the fronts :lol.

MrBen

C'mon get Pioneers for the front.

Infinity. Nuff said. I'm running infinity 5'25's in front and 6.5's in back. Best I've ever heard.

Four channel amps usually have two seperate sets of gains. One for the front and one for the rear. That's what I'm talking about. If for some reason the amp only had one gain for all four channels then you would be correct and he would blow the front speakers.:)

You guys need to explain that for me....

So when I buy an amp, I need to make sure that it has 4 channels, and 2 gain controls? That or buy 2 amps right?

And when I buy the amps, should I just buy enough to have them peak the speakers? Or should I go below so I don't blow them?

Thanks.

And when I get the stuff, how hard is it to install, I was thinking of having someone else do it. An audio store or something. I can do the speakers but the amps, I wouldn't know what to do.

Sorry, guaynabo89 is right. The amp you picked out is perfect and it does have seperate gain controls.

..It's pretty simple to install the amp, You can find some wiring kits on www.crutchfield.com, See if they have one with power, ground, Fuse holder (usually comes with fuse), Remote wire and 2 sets of RCA's. I think there is an Installation guide on www.crutchfield.com as well.

Edit: Here i threw this wiring diagram toghether for ya. Just make sure you put the Fuse holder closer to the battery than it is in the "Diagram".

Just go to Autozone or some other auto shop for a wiring kit.

Yea dude go with the infintiy's if you can afford them. The references are in the lower price with the Pioners, but the Kappa's is where you have to put a big dent in your wallet to get the big thumping speakers.:pimp:

If you want to get some good Pioneer speaker get the new line of Premier speakers. Check out their web site for their new stuff.:D I can't remember the URL but it is worth the search.

I've got to agree with the majority here that Pioneer is a good way to go. Although, i dont personally like them for 6 x 9's i'm pretty picky when it comes to speakers so.......

I had a pretty good setup in my car before it all got stolen. I had to Sony eXplode 6 x 9's which sounded like crap and they didnt even fit. If they had been amped they would have sounded better. I have infinity's in the front and i went down to Radio Shack and picked up a pair of the 1 1/4" tweeters and hooked them up on the front channel and it made the whole system sound WAY better. The sony's sound decent, they just lack good highs. the tweets helped a LOT. I had a couple amps that i thought worked great for both my subs and the 6 x 9's. I used the Majestic amps. I picked up a 300 watt amp for 100 bucks brand new. I rocked 2 12's in a sealed box pretty good. I wasnt going for competition type stuff, but i felt it good and people in the cars around me felt it too. Thats just a personal preferance, but a lot of people told me it sounded good. But for the money, those little tweeters were the best thng i got for my stereo and they were only like 50 bucks.

And what does it mean when it says it's a 2,3, or 4-way speaker??

[/B]

2way = Woofer and Tweeter
3way = Woofer, Midrange, And Tweeter
4way = Woofer, Midrange, Tweeter, And A SuperTweeter of another tweeter

I use Sony 6x9 and 5 1/4. They sound great to me.

Two tips

On your head unit, kill any sound below 125hz from going to your in car speakers. this will increase the life of your in car speakers. Music that low should be sent to your subs.If you cant control this by your head unit, get some bass blocker for you incar speakers.

Go to crutchfield and get those XTC foam baffles, they will improve sound quality and protect your speakers.

Midrange???

And thanks for that info, you're the first one to actually answer!!

And I'm redoing my dad's deck, so he's giving me about 400 for that, so I'll be getting the infinities and the HU, and get the amp later when I can afford it

I got some jensen 6x9's when my original speakers blew.... for 40 bucks, they were awesome! and when I got a new set of speakers, I took the jensens apart... so now I have a pair of 6x9 subs, basically... I took the midrange and tweeter out (they probably didn't really work anyway).... and when i find another pair of 6x9 speaker holders, I'm gonna put the jensen's back in to see if they work

hey guys I have an 93 corolla Im hearing all this talk about 6x9 in the front doors of yourr 3gee can you do that on my corolla??
if so I know what Im doing!!

A Dawg Jr
07-13-2003, 06:01 PM
I guess, if you really wanted to. There hasn't been much talk of 6x9's up front. I would do 6.5's over the 6x9's. But if you really wanted to do it, you could make a kick pod for the door. If the speakers are mounted in the dash... then I don't know.. good luck I guess. What size speakers are in the front of the corola? And where are they at? Door?
