cdscowboy: if i'm on a hill it'll roll and make a grinding sound like its slipping gear.

i hope not...i'll try adjusting the shift cable tomorow see if that'll help.

tranny was already replaced with an 87 lx tranny last year.don't want to go through that again.

All the more reason to get a rebuilt tranny off the bat so you dont ever have to deal with it again. When mine goes, I'll either get it rebuilt or sell the car.

Try adjusting the shifter cable. It does go out of alignment sometimes. Make sure the fluid is genuine Honda. My old auto used to grind when I put it in park but when I switched to Honda atf, it went away and shifted much smoother.

^^^ Do what he said. :D Hopefully you don't have to get a new one. If you do, you may as well go for a 5-speed conversion!!

i adjusted the shifter cable and it still does it (not as much though)....is there an adjustment besides the one in the shifter?

transmission was acting real bad few moths ago, i change the tranny fluid (honda atf) and it ran much better...it still shifts a little high(4000) could this be related to my park problem? and how would i fix this

Make sure the engine idle speed is not too high. If the tranny is shifting late, the throttle cable might need adjusting as well. Look in the how-to for info on that.

no, my 88 does the same damn thing... grinds sometimes when you put it in P, othertimes P is the same as reverse... the tranny is fuxored (from towing). It also slips out of drive alot. I have to put it neutral and use the handbrake when I park it.
