View Full Version : Modified My Waxing Technique

I recently visited with a guy whose car had the slickest paint job I ever saw or felt. I got some advice on how to achieve that. I have waxed my car quarterly since 1989 and it looked pretty good, but this is the next stage. I bought some stuff at Auto Zone called "detailing clay" and prepped the finish with it before waxing with Mequiar's Gold Class. Normally, it is tough to tell how shiny a white car is in photos, but in the angled side view you will see how smooth it came out.

Yup, clay bars work wonders. Here's the steps I now take after reading up on alot of boards. If you were impressed with Gold Class, you'll be even more impressed with their other proffesional line stuff (Mirror Glaze line in the beige bottles). Takes a few hours but man, the results are worth it!

1)Clay bar (I use Mother's, comes with quick detailer spray) to clean the surface
2)Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze to polish the paint and buff out light swirling and scratches
3)Meguiar's #26 High Tech Yellow Wax to protect.

The paint is super glossy and the water just beads right off.
I also used Meguiar's Scratch-X and/or Gold Class to maintain the shine when I want to do a quick waxing job.

Well, it works now when I view it, but Yahoo Briefcase is screwed up. It may not work tomorrow.

It's probably in your system cache. Upload it to geocities and give us the link, or cardomain, or whatever.

Aw, crap, I guess you're right. Once I get my freebie web space set up on Verizon I won't have to put up with this crap.

Let's just say that in the picture, my 14 year old white paint job looks very good.
