Thats a pretty general question. Are you out of coolant? Compressor not work? Have a leak?

Getting a new system is more than just bolting up some stuff. Check out my how to. Its ususally best to find out whats wrong and recharge with R12 if you can afford it. If you are feeling creative converting to es12a would do ok in cali.

i think i will just stick with r12. can anyone give me a list of the MAIN components of our a/c systems?
here's what's wrong with it...
the coolant's been empty since before i bought my car, and a few months ago i rear-ended a damn soccer mom driving like an idiot and i punctured the radiator-type part, i don't know what it's called on an a/c system

teh front part is the condenser ! and you need to change teh DRYER and expansion valve if teh system hasn't been used for a long time !

Compressor

Condenser

Evaporator

Dryer

Lines

Thats basically it. Also like Mike Accord EX said the expansion valve located on the evaporator.

You will need to get a new condenser (duh), also you might have damaged some lines. Check for damage. When you get the new condenser, it would be wise to get some gauges and a vacuum pump and see if you have any more leaks (i bet you do). Then you can start with the How To: and refill with R12
