Personally i've never had a problem with sony stuff. I've heard of people blowing subs but honestly they do'nt have a lot of credability in terms of smarts. I believe they just had them in poorly tuned woofer enclosure and/or clipped it. I had an older explod tape deck wich was freakin bullet proof. Best FM tuner i've ever experienced. I also just purchased the new pentagon shaped series 12" explod sub. 1200watts peak 350watts RMS
It thumps REALLY hard and can really handle some power!

I think you'll like sony products. And for the price your getting a deal

Personal opinion: Sony head unit is nice. Sure there are better ones out there, but I am pretty happy with mine. BUT... their speakers suck big time. I wouldn't get them. All around, Pioneer is good for the money-- it's a nice middle ground between crap and expensive. Pioneer sounds good, Sony sounds bad.

Infinity's all around, amp, HU. You're done. I just got all my shizzle off ebay, and it wasn't THAT expensive. I payed 210 for the front and back speakers, 200 for a small multi channel amp, and 230 for the HU. Probably more than what you want to pay, but I got the HU and back speakers for my B-day, so I kinda lucked out, I ended up useing 300 or so of my own money for the amp and front speakers.... Not bad, but it's pretyy top of the line stuff... You should here it though, sounds like I have a 10' in the back... I love it.

My HU and cabin are all Sony Xplod. I must say I'm very happy with them. I can't really tell you what the bass w/just the speakers is like, cause I've always had my subs in.
I know Pioneer is good stuff, too, so you could go that route. It all depends what your price range is, really. Like A Dawg Jr said, Infinity is good stuff, but you're gonna pay a chunk more.

Infinity speakers are expensive get if you can afford it, Sony head units sometimes come with low watts, especially on cheaper ones. Pioneer has a good amount of amplification for their decks, and their speakers are great.

i had a Sony head unit and all it did was skip. IMO they are garbage strictly Alpine when it comes to head units for me!

Got that 60 X 4 channel joint MP3's and all never skips 3 pre-outs. I have had three head units and i dont think i will ever buy another brand!

Kenwood - low power

Sony - Skipped/ garbage

Alpine - DA Bomb Diggity!!!!

I have a kenwood deck (KDC-217s) CD/CD-R/CD-RW. its 45x4, preouts and detachable face. Great sound quality and NEVER skips. for $179CAn brand new its pretty good.

My Sony deck doesn't skip and it's a couple years old. It's got preouts and a detachable face, with great bass control (D-Bass). 45x4 so it's not low wattage. It does the job nicely. cdscowboy has the same unit. I have new Pioneer's all the way around and couldn't ask for much better unless I went with infinity. Maybe when I'm rich.

MrBen

Or is that the gas pedal? Can't really tell.

pimp86LX
06-18-2003, 09:29 PM
hmmm could be. I precieved it as being attached to the side. But it could be a shiney pedal obstructed partially.

This is mine

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/caraudio/product.asp?sku=13217

I got it on ebay for a bit cheaper, it was still brand new..

my advice is to get a descent deck, and get some pioneers they're the best for the buck. And if you want subs and amp, I can't really help you there, but I asked some simaller questions about a month ago, and either got, go for the pioneers for cheaper, good speakers. Or, go for the infinity's. My b-day rolled around and I got the infinity's... so it depends on you budget. How much are you looking to spend?

I had a Sony CD player and I hated it. It was a piece of crap, and it wasn't one of the cheap ones either. It wouldn't play CDs sometimes and I almost smashed it many times. I hated it. I love my new Pioneer.

Actually, now that you said you have 45x4W and D-Bass, I know we have different units. I have 52x4W and a 7-band equalizer, so it's not the same deck. But I've never had any problems with my deck at all, and puts out plenty of power for just a HU.

TJ89Accord - how old was your deck? Maybe you just got the bad one of the litter.

I don't know how old it was, but here is a pic of it, I don't have it anymore and this is the only pic that I could find.

My best advice then is to look for a resonable deck that you want, and check for it on ebay, it shouldn't be that much and you can get a decent one

I have a Sony HU in my 3g, and I'll have to say that its OK at best. I'll admit I've had it for a year now and it is starting to skip pretty badly. Before that it was nearly flawless though. I wouldn't buy sony again though. I'm thinking of going and saving up for a niiiice niice Alpine HU, I've heard nothing but good things.

Never get Infinity 6.5, 5.25, 6x9s, any of the small stuff. I got my hole system with them and I hate it. I have a Sony HU Powering it all. I am now waiting on my new Audiobahn ABC600 components for the doors and next the 6x7 plats for the rear. I really like Sony for a HU. This is my 2nd setup I used a Sony.

A Dawg Jr

Stupid, the infinity stuff is all nice, but you pay for what you get. If you don't have an amp to power them, then of course they're not going to live up to what they can do. They sound great in my car. You're the first person I've heard say anything bad about them. Your HU probably can't push them hard enough

i was gonna say that your head unit is to blame... thats the heart of your system.. with out a good heart, you dont perform too well...

I duno I have Infinity 6.5s all around powered my my Sony HU and they sound OK. They'll be better with an amp powering them, nevermind a better HU. But for now they sound good.

i love my pioneer. they're great. i put cd's in it that are scratched to hell and it still plays them. when most other cd players wouldn't. it doesn't play mp3. but it's got xm radio. but i think it's mostly personal preference. but mine happens to be pioneer

I put a 4x100 watt amp on them that my friend had and thay still didn't sound like $350 for 4 speakers. And I Dynamated the shit out of the doors and some on the rear deck under the carpet.... And I dont have a shitty HU. cdx-ca850x (http://www.car-audio-experts.com/sony-cd-player-cdx-ca850x.shtml) (do I?)

I have two 760watt peak sony xplode 2channel amps for my fronts and rears and would not recommend them. I had to downgrade my speakers so I could turn the volume up all the way without getting clipping. They definetly don't put out what there rated at.

well like everyone else said "you get what you pay for." If you are at any point in time going to try to get good-great sound out of your system then save up and do it right the first time. As far as the people who dont think sony is anything special, head over to my place. My thunderbird has a sony cdx-c90 headunit going to the sony xdp-210eq controlled by a xm-757 cd changer. For speakers Ive got Jlaudio xr570 in the rear and custom door panles that house a set of JL: audio xr-653 seperates. As far as amps go Ive got a soundstream 644S thats going to be replaced real soon like with JL audio 300/4. Thats it for now. For subs I am thinking 4 of the new JL audio 12w6v2 with 2 jl audio 1000/1. In the wifes 3gee Ive got a pioneer deh-p8400 with a soundstream continuum amp. Infinity seperates up from and coax in the back. Shes got 3 jlaudio 8w6s.

If you are looking for great sound plan on spending some cash. Ebay is a good place to start but only buy from high remark sellers selling NEW stuff. Too many people have been burned hardcore by shitty people online. Also try the online ordering. Youll needa CC usually though. Just my 2 cents
