Something's wrong with my windshield wipers. When they're not turned on and if you try to move the other wiper with by yourself, they actually move about an inch (measured from the end). And when they're turned on, the driver's side wiper hits in the left end of the window every time they wipe. Normally they stop right before the hit the in the left A-pillar. Is there a loose bolt somewhere or what?

Please tell me people, this problem is really annoying.

Probably the wiper motor is loose. You need take off the front cowl just in front of the windshield to access the motors. Probably loose bolt like you said.

try tightining those nuts ontop of where the whiper is connected to the motor. i had one get loose on me and the drivers side wouldn't go up and down and it would kinda slide in the wind.

This happens on mine. My wipers are shot, i need to pick up the whole assembly from a junkyard. Driving at high speeds(90+) with them on does not help(they dont work past 90).

When you open the hood and look where the wiper is attached you will see a screw. Loosen that and you can move the wiper. Move it to where when it goes to the top of the windshield it does not hit the side. It was pretty easy to do. Its trial and error, just adjust it a tiny bit, then get a garden hose, get your windshield good and wet and test it.

Here's a scanned pic of the wiper motor. Can you people draw in the pic which bolts I have to open...

The wipers are tightly attached to the motor, that's not the problem here, but they still move in high speeds or when you manually try to move them.

There something loose somewhere else, but where and what?

Here are some pics i took. Its really easy.

See here on this pic:

Just unscrew that and then you will be able to move the wiper. Basically when you move the wiper you are controlling where it starts and in turn how far it goes up on the windshield. So push the wiper down a little, tighten the nut and then go turn them on(with water and all that). Keep doing it so it does not hit the bottom, nor the top.

Man, I know and I've done that many times, but the wipers just move too much... As I said, the problem is somewhere else.

try removing the wiper arms and check the splines on the wiper motor and wiper arm,.....they may have a worn spot allowing the movement you are getting

Okay I figured out the problem. It was a loose ball joint shown in this photo:

Here is a video clip of how the wipers work: http://users.kymp.net/dsl1109d/wipers.mpg

I'll have to replace this rod:

And here is my temporary solution:
