Ive read post about switching out autos for manuals. But im confused about one thing:confused: . Most of the posts and info talk about the EFI powered models and the 88-89's. Mine is a 86 LX with carb. Now when i swtich trannies do i need to get a nother ECU for 5 speed? If this is a stupid question plz keep flames to minimum :flip: :lol

If you have a carb stick with a carb tranny. Injected cars have different trannies, as well as different ecu's i'm sure.

get an EFI or Prelude tranny... they have way better acceleration based on lower gearing.. the problem is that 65 MPH is spinning at 3000 RPM.. no big deal unless you travel alot and have a loud exhaust.. but im guessing that you like performance because of your SIG and because you are goin 5 speed...

cruznz: so the 5-speeds dont have an ecu or just doesnt require a different one? If do like Dxhatchback says and get say a prelude tranny will it then require another ECU?

thanx in advance.

hmmm,...yes to the latter part of first question.....no to the last....the ECU only controls engine driveability in our cars...
...not till later model trans with shift solenoids ,etc,( in the auto trans), used transmission ECU's.....up to now with more high tech trans...such as the,drive-by-wire, technology we are starting to see nowadays in passenger vehicles

with a carbed 5 speed car, you can put any tranny you want in it.. if you look at your tranny, there is no wires going to it except for the reverse lights

So you can put a f-i tranny into a carb, but not a carb into a f-i?
