Ok so at the shop today i told my mechanic that i was looking into getting an engine at the junkyard.

He went and told me that a DOHC isnt going to fit in my accord and that it would be to much trouble.

I ran a search and couldnt come up wit anything, My ?? is is this true and what is the big difference and what problems woould occur???

Your Mech is not a Dumbass.. U have to remember that a swap in our cars is not very popular, so alot of ppl are not aware of it... The first mech I went too ( Good MECH ) LOL in my face.. He thought it was joke.. But He still agreed to do it..

Well I meant that remark jokingly of course. But he shouldn't really tell you what to do if he isn't certain himself.

SOHC has 3 valves Per Cylinder, with DOHC you get an extra valve per cylinder... which means more air and fuel. and the more air and fuel you have the more power you have.

so its like the 16 valve compared to our 12 valves that we have in our cars!

I dont see why htis would be a problem.

Is the wiring that much different or no?

The wiring is the hardest part of the swap.. Our cars are "PRE-OBD" newer cars are OBD1 or OBD-2.. So you would have to convert the engine to either "PRE-OBD" or OBD-1. But this is another story.. First Get the engine then worry about tha wiring.. DOHC have 16 valves and two cam shafts. One for intake & 1 for exhaust.. Just a better overall engine than the one on our accords.. Also... All u need is the engine, if u can get the wire harness & Ecu thats a plus!! You can always sell the ECU!

:stick: dont know if you know this buuuuut.....

one of the other differences is that DOHC is DUAL overhad cam
SOHC is SINGLE over head cam......like i said..just making sure you know......some kids still ask what JDM means.....

go for a b swap man. it does involve a bit of fabricatrion and finessing but in the end its worth it and A HELL of a lot of people have done it on the board so they could help you out. and if you want your mech to do it for you ive them the email addys of the people on the board who have done it in case your mech has any ?'s......you could always do a canadian type S style b20... :)

i did know what DOHC and SOHC meant but htanks anyway.

that is a good idea bout the emails and shit though i would of never thought about that

. is it hard to change a vehicle from Pre-obd to Obd-1??????

DOHC means there are two diffrent cams controlling the exaust and intake valves which makes it able to run more accurately and effeciently.

I don't doubt the mechanic is an honest person and he hadn't heard of it before but he's still fucking dumb for talking out of his ass on a subject about which he knows absolutely nothing.
