i have a friend with a dx and it's something i can't seem to figure out.
when i turn on the a/c the idle goes down.
so i checked the a/c solenoid, it seem's to get continuity.
i checked the connection where the ecu turn's it on and it's getting 'bout 3 volt's the manual said it sould get some voltage.
then i overrode the solenoid and connected it directly and nothing happen's.
sometime's whenm it's driven with it on the car vibrate's, and sometime's it does'nt.
can someone give me ADVICE on this please.

carb need adjustments.
read Hauney's manual on how to adjust it.

i read it and it said that when the solenoid activate's there should be vacuum on the other and nothing happen's. i know what would happen if the solenoid whould activate and nothing's happening. if the solenoid had continuity, there would be a chance that could still be the problem.

so the a/c idle boost diaphragm doesn't move at all?

if it moves a little then it may just need a few turns of the adjustment screw... if the diaphragm itself is leaking then you'regonna have to replace it.

okay so if it's leaking would'nt the car idle be eratic or idle high?
thanx-n-advance.

it would either raise the idle or lower the idle... it depends where the a/c idle boost taps into vacuum.

i'm guessing it can't be a leak cause when i dissconnect it the car act's like it want's to shut off.

My test would have been to unplug the hose from the a/c idle boost diaphragm... and plug the hose so vacuum won't leak from it.

Turn on the A/C and the idle will drop cause of the extra load.
then plug the hose back to the boost diaphragm and see if the idle goes up...

if the idle doesn't raise but you know the vacuum line that you plugged was getting vacuum when the A/C was turned on... then the diaphragm is either leaky or it's stuck. or the adjustment is so far off that the screw is not opening the throttle any.

in that case just turn the screw in till you get a normal idle.

well lets' just say the diaphragm is stuck how would you free it.
and i know this may sound stupid . . . . but, can you run the engine withe the air claener assm. off like the whole black thingy off of the carb?

i looked at the downloadable manual that i got from here and a hayes manual.
the hayes said if you don't get 12v to the a/c sol. connection then the is ecu is at fault.
but the on-line said if it get's any volt's then it's fine.
i'm reall need some help on this.

can you show me where the A/C solenoid is, on the car... My memory is kinda fuzzy.

it's on the driver side front part of the fender. it has two hose's connected to a solenoid. it's by vac.line 30 in the same area.

i jumped the solenoid and it work's and i attached it to the vac. idle. thingy.
now it move's when the screw to adj. is not touching the trottle assembly.
but it only's move's slightly.
so the diafram is busted or what ?:wtf:
