Size and offset (if any)

Am not sure where I should put this...so here goes

I still have the stock rims for my 3G but I wont to know how large can I go with the rim size and do I need an offset? I was thinking along the lines of putting on 16x8 with a 45 mm offset and then I also want to drop the car anywhere from 1.5 - 2.5. Does anyone know what the limits are?

thats the idea 16 inch wheel

you can go all the way to an 18 if you want

i have 17's
i run a 215/40/17 inch tire.. its a big ass tire.. and its really grippy

for 18's you want 215/35/18's

this is all in the FAQ and shit... just search and shit loads of info will come

Consider 215mm width the maximum and combine it with a 45mm offset. Weather you run 16,17 or 18" is up to you. But you cannot run tire width's that need 8" wide rims, 215mm is fine with 7" or 7.5" wide rims and 45mm offset.

Keep in mind that the 215/35-18 tire size is the only one to run in 18" and that it's allot taller than the stock oem diameter. It's like running taller gearing in your car.

In 16" the proper plus size is 205/45-16, going wider you can run 215/40-16 or 215/45-16.

This is only with a 45mm offset though, right? I have 205/40 16 sized tires on my rims right now, and i had to roll the rear lips, which leads me to believe that the offset is at about 35-38mm....i really don't think i could get away with a 215/45, do you?

Yes 215mm width in 16", 17", and 18" requires 45mm offset to not rub.

If your rubbing on 205/40-16 you have 35mm or 38mm offset.

I recently heard that 17"'s are better for racing and 18" are better for show.

15s are better for racing. Unless you get light 17s. It doesn't necessarily matter the diameter of the wheel, but the weight and generally, the smaller the lighter (since most people-esp. on this board- cannot afford lightweight 17s e.g. volks etc.).

If your running a car that doesn't have allot of lean in the corners.

3g's have allot of body roll. The 17's we run have so little sidewall flex that they can't distort to make up for allot of body roll. Get that under control, then 17's can deliver benefits, but count on spending money to keep 17" rim weight down.
