The engine code is supposed to decode like this:
A20A1-12xxxxx (my engine #) where:
**a20a1 = carbed engine (obviously)
**1= year (1986?)
**2= emmission group/factory (2 isn't on the chart!) where
0= California emmissions/Saitama plant
1= Calif./Ohio plant
3=49 state emmissions/Saitama
5=49ST/Ohio
**xxxxx= serial number of motor produced at that plant

Where did this "2" come from? Could my engine be Canadian or something? :wtf: :huh:

Also I lost my trans serial # when I removed the tranny to clean it and replace the engine crankshaft seal, is there a way to retrieve it (through Honda I guess)?

your numbers mean u got an '87 built motor and california emmission (probably impossible with an A20A2!) built in Japan.

california emmisions !?? i don't have emmisions at all ! :D
anyway when i said i fixed the VIN :
jhmca5531hc141727
the last 6 digits 141727 are the most important ones thatis car number 141727 built !
all before it determines the model , year , location built , etc .. ! except digit # 9 the check digit ! this one is caclulated in a special way depending on all the other numbers ! so at first my VIN had a 0 instead of h in it which means it's a 1979 car ! so i changed to a h and recalculate the check digit a # and i was done !

BTW here is a pic of my engine serial number !
i don't like how the 9 is written !
