yea it's sony. 15 years ago that meant something good :lol

anyways after much searching and being impressed by my current amps (a pair of Mobile ES units) I was thinking about getting 2 of thee class D Sony amps to push the subs

the subs are dual 4 ohm coil and take 1200 watts so 1 of these pentagons can push each sub to 900 RMS and best of all for like $350 I can get both of them new

If anyone has a better suggestion I'm all earz

900x1RMS @ 2 ohms

Features

Class D P5 Amplifiers: The XM-D1000P5 amplifier is a 5-sided Class D mono block amp, designed to complement the Sony P5 subwoofer line. Class D technology is a method to convert and amplify music signals with MOSFETs to high-speed pulse signals. Class D amps feature high efficiency and low heat generation.

Protection Circuitry: This amplifier has 3-way protection circuitry which protects the amplifier in the following cases:

Thermal: shuts off the amp when the operating temperature is too high
Short circuit: shuts off the amp when the speaker outputs are short-circuited
DC Offset: shuts off the amp when the speaker wires or ground lead is not securely connected, generating direct current
Power/Protector LED: The amplifier has an LED on the top panel which glows green when operating normally, and changes to red when the protection circuit is activated.

Low-pass Crossover: The XM-D1000P5 is equipped with a low-pass crossover, continuously variable from 50-300Hz, with a slope of 12dB/octave. It is constantly activated and cannot be switched off.

Low Boost: You can add up to 10dB of bass boost centered at 40Hz.

Preamp Output: This amplifier includes a stereo preamp output, which allows you to send an unfiltered signal to another amplifier.

Speaker-level Input Harness: The amp comes with a speaker-level input harness with a 4-pin Molex plug on one end. This allows you to more easily connect this amplifier to a factory radio or a receiver without preamp outputs.

Protection Cap: The XM-D1000P5 comes with a rubber protection cap that fits over the wire terminal strip, helping to prevent accidental short circuiting.

Inputs and Outputs

Front Center of Amplifier:

+12V (power): screw terminal (terminal is 0.54" wide)
GND (ground): screw terminal (terminal is 0.54" wide)
REM (remote turn-on): screw terminal (terminal is 0.34" wide)
Speaker Outputs: 2 pairs of screw terminals (each terminal is 0.34" wide) Note: Although there are two sets of speaker terminals, they are not stereo outputs, but summed (L+R) mono. The speaker outputs are internally wired in parallel, so if you connect two 4-ohm speakers to the amp, the amplifier will "see" a 2-ohm load.
Front Right of Amplifier:

Line-In: RCA stereo jacks
Line-Out: RCA stereo jacks
High Level Input: a 4-pin input for use with the included speaker-level input harness
Specifications

RMS Power Output:

500 watts x 1 into 4 ohms (20Hz to 300Hz, 0.2% THD)
900 watts x 1 into 2 ohms (20Hz to 300Hz, 0.6% THD)
Maximum Power Output:

1000 watts x 1 into 4 ohms
1600 watts x 1 into 2 ohms
Wiring Recommendation

Amplifier Wiring: This amplifier uses three 40-amp fuses, so its total fuse rating is 120 amps, however Sony recommends using a 150-amp fuse at the battery. Since pre-packaged amplifier wiring kits do not normally have 150-amp fuses, you will need to purchase all of the necessary wiring items separately, or purchase a 4-gauge amplifier wiring kit and replace the fuse and fuse holder in the kit with a 150-amp ANL fuse and ANL fuse holder. The items needed to wire this amplifier include:

One ANL wafer-style fuse holder
One 150 amp ANL wafer fuse
Power cable--4 gauge minimum (to connect the battery to the fuse holder and the fuse holder to the amplifier)
Ground cable--4 gauge minimum
2 power rings
Remote turn-on cable (speaker wire can be used as remote turn-on cable)
One set of stereo RCA patch cables
Speaker wire

just one thing. They are picky about sealed boxes. ya know how people say you can get away with more error when building sealed? well im about .45^3 feet too big and you can tell. so i'm building a new box...properly...and patiently :D But even still they sound really good.

ill be running ported... i have a hatch.. so i have lots of room... what is the recomended size for a ported box? do you remember??

1.0 sealed, 1.5 Ported

if you get them new you should get the paper work with all the theile-small numbers

Always take quality over quanity for these things or you'll end up worse off in the long run. Either having to buy again in the near future or having to buy the quality after passing on it only having to return to buy what you should have took the first time. Yeah do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again....
