if my power steering pump has not been in use lately, and may not be for another week or so, due to the fact that i am waiting to have my new rack installed and then be able to put power steering fluid back into my car, thus making my power steering pump useful again...should i disconnect the power steering belt from the pump to save wear-and-tear on the pump??? And how hard is it to change a timing belt and a water pump on your own when you have moderate mechanical experience?

yes, you should remove the belt if you don't have any fluid in the system.
how hard it to change the water pump and timming belt. it is not that bad. you should be able to do it.

yeah ive seen people get away from running the pump dry for a long time but i highly reccomend taking off the belt so you dont ruin it.
