I've read the how to on the timing belt replacement but i am still wondering how you position the number one piston at Top Dead center. Which one is number one...i'm assuming it is the one farthest to the drivers side of the car. Is it as simple as making sure the line or dot on the end of the crankshaft pulley is pointing straight up?

go their and download the manual basically you align the mark on the flywheel with the pointer.

#1 piston is closest to the pulleys, just look inside your flywheel timing hole and line up the marks and put the cam straight up (you'll see the TOP or UP marking on it, it also has 2 groves on the cam gear that should line up with the head when the pointer is up)

Also there is a #15 on the flywheel too. So don't get confussed when you see it. Also everytime you rotate the cam 360deg the flywheel will rotate 2x.

i think i've already passed the point of sounding stupid, so i'll ask this question anyway. Where is the flywheel timing hole?

It is below the distributer on the engine block there might be a rubber stopper you need to remove
