Well my clutch is starting to slip and i went down to my mechanic to get an estimate and he quoted me at 500 beans for the clutch and labor. I'm thinkin thats a lil steep. So about how hard is it to put a new clutch in?

I'd make damn sure my tranny is working nicely while you're at it. You're not going to want to go down this road again!

$500 is a fair price (cheap in a way). If you don't know how to do it, I suggest you just pay the shop $500 and not have to worry about paying more if you were to do it yourself. But if you have a good idea of how to do it, give it a shot. You'll never know unless you try. Good luck if you decide to go at it.

i would highly recommend buying a clutch kit and giving it to your mechanic. that way you only have to pay for the labor. mechanics usually like to soak you with high prices on parts to make you think the labor is cheap. before i knew how to fix cars, my 84 accord died on me. i took it to a shop, and they said it needed a new fuel pump. it ended up costing me like $300 dollars. the pump alone was $220. later, i learned that fuel pumps for my model car usually cost no more than $75. so, do your homework beforehand.(also, never get your stuff fixed at a firestone store, especially the one in salem oregon) but, i must agree, $500 is cheap for a new clutch.

I had a mechanic replace my clutch for $350. He is our main mechanic and he might have given me a deal, but i think that $500 is kinda steep.

Hah hah i do know what you're talking about Rusty. Firestone is a ripoff on work other then tires. My g/f had a tie rod and axles replaced and they charged her like $450 - $500 for the whole thing.
