i was recently thinking about swapping motors in my 88 accord, and i was wondering, what would be the better choice, a b18a or a h22a?

the mount kit will cost around 1000 if you get all the parts (mounts, axles, wiring harness, shift rod, etc)

The B18A price will vary alot depending of the condition of the engine

You can save on labor if you do everything yourself.

I would say it costs around 2000 to 2500 installed in your car.

i can get a b18a from a kid across the street from me for $300. its only been run once, all it needs is a mount welded on it where another on broke off, is this a good deal? should i go for it?

lol might be less of a headache when you go to put the motor in your accord to have that mount broken off.......i'd be wary of getting that motor. What did he do to the car and/or motor to have a motor mount break off the block? It takes a LOT for that to happen. It might have done a lot of damage to the motor thats why he'll sell it to ya for only 300 bucks.....

$300 is a good price if its in good condition. Is he someone who'll give your money back if it turns out to be junk?

You can expect to pay about $1500-$2000 to swap that motor into a 3rd gen accord. Search on the board and you will come up with a lot of info regarding swapping in a B series motor into those cars.

I heard h22 don't give out as much as you would like.......A B-18 would be the way to go......I guess they have alot of torque and that is what you want.

You got to be bsing me by saying h22 dont give out as much as you like. Just ask the people who have done it here. There have been 2 people on this board that have done the swap correct?

What exactly do mean " the Mount broke off" ? You mean the Bracket? Where exactly did it brake? A swap without labor would probably cost around 3k+. Depending on which engine you buy offcourse.. Then you have factor in the Wiring Issues!! HA!Good Luck

all the wiring harnesses come with it, and this kid would give me my money back if it sucks

In all honesty If u are really serious about doing a swap, then I will post some info on it.. It gets very expensive & fustrating. Do u have any money?

AlrighT!!!!! First off! You need to decide which engine you want! You can choose either a JDM B16, B17a1, B18a, B18b, B18c1 or a combo like an Ls/vtec or Cr-vtec. Judging from your Budget your best bet is a JDM B16a. Pretty cheap if you know ppl. Keep in that you are going to need Mounts, Axles, Ecu, Wire Harness and whole mess of other things. So Keep in mind that your are probably looking to spend a lil more than $3100 bucks.. read this than decide!

im getting a b18a for 300 dollars with a ecu, bit after what you said i dont know if the ecu will work. im stupid with engine swaps, becasue this is my first one. the kid im getting the b18 from is going to put it in for me, and i can get some axles i found for like 100 bucks, so with all that its only going to be like 400 bucks, so i stil got 2700

ehh it sounds to me gameoner, u dont know what ur doing and with all that money on the line i wouldnt go with the swap. a b18 for 300 is way outta wack. if this kid is so good and smart he wouldnt sell and engine with 130hp for 300 its just not right. just dont even bother and spend ur money on a newer car...

If it's a JDM B18A it might bolt in and it has more power. But I'm guessing we're talkin 1g USDM teg LS/RS here.

you get what you pay for

yeah, you do get what you pay for. if you really want something faster and arn't really digging your 3g, then i would honestly suggest you keep your money, save a bit more, and you could prob by a teg like the one that motor came out of. it prob wouldn't be in prime condition but if you get $4000 there are lots of choices for low buck quick cars (teg, civic, miata, newer accord, AE-86 *if you can find one*, celica, 240sx, mustang, MR-2). although if you are into keeping the 3g then good luck to you and the B18. if that doesn't turn out well, i would recomend a B16 or jap/euro B20 since they are the more strait forward/easier swaps being your 1st time.
