View Full Version : How often do you take your face plate off?

I guess it'll very from town to town. but any time I'm out of my car, so is it. I either put it in the glove department and lock it or take it with me in my bag if I'm at school. I've had 5 of my friends get theirs stolen...

I leave mine in for the most part, unless its a public place. Oh and locking your glove compartment doesn't do shit. Once the guy breaks in your car and figures out the glove compartment is locked, he's gonna know its in there. He'll either pry open the box (causing more damage than the CD player is worth maybe) or take off that passenger vent (its REALLY easy), and reach his hand in there and get it out.

ok this is very ironic. In my old town...sorry village of about 200 people i always took the faceplate off and my car was broken into twice in a month. I've been living in a city of about 80,000 for a year now and i have never once taken my faceplate off nor had any sort of incident with theives. wierd huh?

i take off when ever i go to baltimore or DC, but i never take off when i am around this area.
oh and you can hide it under the dash. i made a little space where i put mine, or sometimes under the seat around dirty socks.

When I first got it I was paranoid about it, now I never take it out.

same here! my eject button is right beside the release button! I must do that at least once everytime i drive. LOL it always rememinds me of a simpsons episode..."We're sorry, the fingers you've used to dial ..are too fat. To obtain a special dialing wand, mash the keypad now"

Nice man. I wanted the 519 but didn't have the cash...or cash flow. I ended up with the 217s

Every night I get home from work, every day I get to work, and anywhere in between. Bad experiences on the west side here in San Antonio

If I take it off at all I just put it in the case in the glove box. I figure if they are going to break into the car I might as well give them something to steal. Otherwise, they might do more damage. The one time it was broken into (at the office) they stole the faceplate (I had not removed it), but were unable to get the base unit out of the dash as I had installed it with the grounding strap. Even if they had not taken the face plate they still screwed up the case by prying it out of the dash - idiots! It would have had no resale value that way.

Damn man, sorry to hear about that. Don't you have an alarm installed on your car? I would if mine just sat out in the street.

Mine's a cheap Aiwa. With Aiwas and Pinoeers you can put in a little screw that will make it impossible to remove the face plate.

The detachable face was a good concept. It superceded the stereos that could actually be completely removed from the dash. Difficult to lug around, but the ultimate in theft prevention! :)

I think connecting a stun gun to the outer casing, or door handle might be the best thing....Lousy M-F'ing thieves!

I take mine off everytime I get out of the car, except if I'm going inside to pay for gas, or I'm just running back into the house for something. Other than that its always with me :)

I live in an OK area, there isnt really any theft of that sorta stuff. The only real time that i take it off is like in a dark, non populated place like the movies at night or somethin like that, but i put the box with my faceplate in it under my seat, not in the glove box because thats the first place they will look if jacking stuff from ur car

Always take it with me, big city.
My last vehicle had its almost fried Premier deck stolen
along with the faceplate under the seat.
The brand spankin new laptop was left on the passenger side floor, the side they broke into.
