Hey, I'm writing on behalf of a friend and just wanted to get some advice:
Okay, the car runs fine whenever the AC is not on. There used to be some problems with the AC not putting out cold air, so he had the whole thing rebuilt; compressor, pulley, fans, etc. Now, when he drives down the road and turns the AC on, the engine loses all power. He says it's like someone turned the engine off. Every second or so, it will lurch forward as if it wants to run, but again goes to no power.:wtf:

When I had a similar problem, the compressor and alternator were at fault. Compressor was putting such a load on the alternator that it was overcharging the battery according to the mechanic. It was an autozone compressor special ordered (rebuilt). POS.

actaully, the voltmeter drops to about 12 when the ac is on. it's normally 14.

any possibility that the a/c has been overcharged?

no, actually it was the alternator. It was putting WAY to much strain on the crank when the ac popped on. I rebuilt it and the car runs fine now with the ac on or off and it's nice and frosty.
