Ask urself this? Does my car make power when I rev that high..As for question, I would say so. A20 engines are not made to rev that high.

Just get a wild cam, new seats, Ti valves, Ti springs, an ECU upgrade, and 7000 PRM would easy. 8000 on a carb (I did with no problem on a 89 DX)

yea but if youre gonna rev that high all the time i would suggest getting the bottom end balanced

It is possible, but the stock A20 makes it peak at around 5500 rpm. With some mods like cam it will help to make more power up there. You might want to get forged rods when reving real high. I'm not sure how much the stock rods can handle but the red line is a good point where to stop at.

yeah... if your power stays with you all the way to redline, go for it... my car has plenty of power all the way to redline... I don't know why most 3gs lose power after 5500 rpm... mine doesn't start to lose until redline at 6200 rpm, with no engine mods.

rrriiiggghhhttt modu03, you keepthinking that, i think any dyno sheet from one of our cars say that the peak power is at like 5 something K.

After I got my triflow cam my car started making much more power closer to the redline. Also It is my oppinion that the 88,89 do a little better after 5 k dut to secondary butterflys.

peek power may be at 5-5.5k but that doesn't mean I don't still get good power up to redline... and it probably does drop off a bit, but it's not a noticeable drop, so it doesn't matter...

therse no denying you make power up there, but i think the whole idea was that peak power is at 5500, and you may think you make lots up there but its actually not compared to peak.

The best way is to keep the gas mashed clutch right before redline (~5800) and then shift. That way you wont hit your rev limiter and you wont risk throwing a rod or blowing your oil pump.

Hitting the rev limiter won't harm anything. for optimum performance, you NEED to go past the peak power. When you shift, the rpm drops and you'll keep the revs in the best part of the powerband...

believe me, too many times in the *(oops)* REV LIMITER tends to make things knock..........:burn: :D

My rev limiter hits at 9k

well, mine comes too quickly sometimes... maybe because the cam allows the engine to breathe more at high rpm.... :dunno

how could you go faster by going past your peak power at any point, you have to think, you're not starting all over again at 2k after you shift you're at 4k plus, could just seem that way, or have somthing to do with your cam so I don't have much room to say. And you're running a B20

i have never hit my rev limiter and ive hit a little over seven. and as far as losing power after 5500 i always go to 6000 just so there is less lag before the powerband of the next gear. (except from first to second) i dont like winding it up in 1st (too harsh).

I guess, maybe I don't notice too much, I don't have the luxury of a 5 speed.

uh... did they make anything but a 5speed for our cars, as far as manual tranny's go?

anyway... my rev limiter kicks in at about 7k, I never let it rev that high of course...

and, yes I know the power band will tell you that you aren't making much power past 5500 rpm, but you still probably are able to accel faster if you let it go to redline, than you would if you shifted into the next gear at 5500 rpm.

and the loss of power is not all that noticeable after 5500 if your car is running well.

I haven't hit a rev limiter but you don't really want to rev past the point the engine is making power. But it is safe to rev out. TRhat's why they make rev limiters ( they limit the rev as not to damage your car ) If you regularly hit your limiter it is harder on your vechicle. Just my .02

I've only hit up to 6500 but it seems like i don't feel any power up there. Of course when I shift to the next gear its faster a notch because it is closer to the best part of the powerband. I don't know if thats any different than just 6000. or 5800.

My power feels like it drops off pretty sharply after the power peak. But I push it a little past so I am still in the powerband for the next gear.
